Ideas for solar lights for small back garden

basically i have a 30ft back garden by only 5 foot maybe 6 ft in some parts wide

all decked to the bottomm wall one side fence the other

basically i want to light it up during the night to make it look good but also for extra security (we have travelers close by at the min )

i have a flood light but it does not have a sensor on it at the min so i was thinking about solar lights but that are nice and bright

has any one got any recomendations also it part of / or is a decoration too that will work nicley too
 
The solar lights you find in garden centers are a waste of time, the single leds in them look bright but cast almost no light.

Mains or battery operated pir spotlights is what you want for security. I have both types, both with led bulbs. The mains one has a household multi led spot 4w (GU10 style) and is very bright. The second is a battery version with a cree led in it, not as bright as the mains one but only really used to light the door area when coming home in the dark, the advantage is that you can fit them anywhere and so far the batteries in it have lasted nearly two years.
 
I recently bought a couple of these from EBay. (The seller I used hasn't got any left, but this looks like the same product and is a similar price)

Hugely impressed with the quality of the lantern and the reach of the light, especially considering that it's just solar powered.
We have one in the alley at the side of the house where we keep the bins - it gets no ambient light at all and these really light it up to a level where you can actually see where you're going. (area about 3' x 20')

p.s. if you're interested, I'll pop out and grab a photo when it gets properly dark so you can see how much light we're getting.
 
Steep, where did you get the batt light?
 
It came from Wickes m8, I did have a look for it last night on their website but it's not there.
 
Beware of the difference between 'ornamental' and 'security' lighting.
The low-light solar and garden lights will serve very nicely to illuminate the way for any potential intruders without giving them the 'surprise' of sudden high wattage illumination.
If you have floodlighting already fitted, why not put in a PIR switcher?
 
B&Q have some in, run on 4x C cells, LED twin spots, about £30
