Ideas for glasgow?

I'm going to Glasgow for the weekend and have decided to take my camera with me as sunday looks kind of empty. I have absolutely no knowledge of the city and was wondering if anyone could suggest anywhere worth visiting.

I was considering going to the necropolis (weird I know, and it looks like it's a bit of a trek from the hotel) but I'm kind of stuck for other ideas.

If it helps we're staying near the kingston bridge (can't remember any more than that at the minute)

Any suggestions??

The science centre is a fantastic shape!!! Water around it too, some nice photo ops there.

Glasgow Cathedral is nice at night with the lights in the trees at the front.
Then you have George Square with the City Chambers - great for during the day for street photography and then its lit up in the evening.

Over to the west of the city and you have Kelvingrove Art Gallery which is a fantastic building, there are many other sights over this end to shoot.

Glasgow city centre has some amazing architecture - always remember to look up when you are out and about shopping!

Where is you hotel? I can recommend the sites above and also, if you have a car, a trip out to Loch Lomond. Otherwise a train from Queen Street station low level will get you to Balloch on the shores of the Loch in under an hour.

I won't have the car with me that weekend, but I'm back down in May so I might do loch lomond then (not sure if I fancy a train journey with a hangover ).

The squinty bridge?? Is that the kingston bridge or something else entirely? Sorry if that's a daft question but I don't know glasgow at all. Apparently we should be able to see the kingston bridge from the hotel

If you are interested in street photography combine a visit to Sharmanka with atrip to the Barras on the Sunday

Thanks fergey. That looks good. I'll see if any of the others fancy it. I'm not sure if I'm up for the barras yet to be honest. I have done some street photography but I'm not that confident with it. I've only ever tried it with my old point & shoot in quiet locations.

The squinty bridge is a different fom the Kingston Bridge. The Kingston Bridge carries the M8 over the Clyde and the squinty bridge (or Clyde Arc) goes from Finnieston (at the SECC) to Pacific Quay (Kinning Park, Ibrox area) unfortunately it's closed just now and is surrounded by cranes as one of the cables snapped and the rest are being checked!

I'd also avoid walking around the Barras with an expensive camera.

I'd recommend the Science Centre, new BBC HQ and SMG HQ at Pacific Quay, then maybe over to the West End, there is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow Uni and Ashton Lane, also lots of nice pubs and restaurants out that way. If you're heading east, there's the Cathedral and Necropolis, well worth a visit.

a few of places mentioned below. i would miss out Barras. Sharmanka is one of Glasgows best kept secrets but its well worth a visit. Its Russian for hurdy gurdy and all exibits are made from junk. Its a kinetic, light show with music.

That Last Post??

Cracking Photo's but AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

At least 4 of them have squint horizons, which have been making a habit of doing my head in recently!!! Not meaning to be picky (well I am) but sort it out man, it's spoiling some otherwise brilliant images.

Have you used HDR in the shots?

That should make saturday afternoon more interesting since I've been persuaded to go shopping

This is beginning to look like a lot of buildings . Should produce some dodgy photos and probably a couple of "help, what happened here" posts :bonk:

That was kind of what I was thinking. I'm wary of wandering around glasgow with a camera anyway (a metalhead with a camera is an obvious target for the local chavs )

Just checked. It's the etap hotel in springfield quay

Not been in the Etap hotel, but you're right on the Science Centre, Pacific Quay area, and not too far from the West end.

Not sure from your post when you're travelling, but if it's this weekend it's worth remembering it's an old firm (Rangers v Celtic) weekend. If anyone asks you about football, say you're a curling fan or something!

The Springfield Quay area is close to Ibrox so will be very busy, not just on an old frim weekend, but any weekend the Gers are at home!

It is this weekend, and if i'm asked about football, I can honestly just tell them that the balls the wrong shape . I'm a rugby fan
