Hi,

Thought it might be interesting to find out what kit people would have in an ideal world, if money weren't an issue (if only!)

1 rule - you can only have 3 lenses.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I would have the following:-

Canon 50d (when it's available)
Canon 10-22
Canon 24-105
Canon 70-200 F4 IS

Eddie...

I would get someone to make me a version of the MP-E65 to fit on my Nikon body ;)

Hi i would go for, as money will always be close to my heart:)

Canon 5D
10mm-20mm HSM
15mm-30mm
18mm-55mm
18mm-125mm OS HSM
24mm-105mm L IS USM
28mm-300mm
100-400mm L IS USM

the ones in bold are my three

pretty much what i have know apart from the 5D <<>> i have the 400D it works fine for me and when i weigh up it cost me less than £1400 i feel OK,

regards Mark.

i would have a
D700 plus a D300
Nikon 12-24
Nikon 24-70
Nikon 70-200 AF-S
Sigma 120-300

amd that would do nicely

If money is no issue....why not a 1D MKIII? :p

Yes good point. Don't think I'd need it, and given the size of the thing...

I would probably consider a 5D actually... and replace the 10-22 with a 50mm 1.2

Oh how I'd love to win the lottery!!!

A nice little collection you'd have there!! So how do you find the 24-105 with the 400d? I have a 350D and Sigma 17-70 right now and I'm getting lens envy and "L" itis... Think I'm going to rent one for a weekend and see how I get on with it.

Haha, tough school. I was going to let it go (only 'cos I'm not interested in Nikon!!) I'm sure there are plenty of Nikon fans, however so it's good to get both sides of the picture.

I sometimes think I should've gone with the likes of Pentax, Olympus etc. then I'd have less lenses to tempt me :bonk: But maybe that's half the fun...

Think I'd probably go for a 1d mkiii

Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L Macro
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens (might be picking up one of these tomorrow)

Im pretty happy with what Ive got now but can imagine if money was no object I would end up with a ridiculous ammount of kit lol.

D300 or D3

17-55 f2.8
120-400 OS
Sigma 300-800

Piece of cake.

Linhoff Technikardan
Something wide
Something long
Something in between. :D

1Dsmk3, 85mm F1.2, 24-70 F2.8 and 300mm F2.8.
That should suit most circumstances.

1Ds mk4 (when it comes)
16-35mk2 L
70-200f2.8IS
400f2.8is

although i think it's really unfair limiting lenses to just 3! if money were no object, i'd have the entire range......

Agreed (at least with the wide/long/inbetween). Easy to get carried away with the money side. If I was to concentrate finances away from the car and towards some tog gear, then I'd just go mad on 'L' glass. Always wanted to get a 40D (well....since it came out!) Mission accomplished. ;)
50D doesn't appeal as yet!

D3 x2
14-24 f2.8
24-70 f2.8
80-200 f2.8 AF-S

Spare batteries
Lee ND Grads
Same tripod that I have atm
SB800
UV Filters to protect objectives.

Spare D300 body
Nikon 18-200mm 3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR - Already have
Nikon 200-400mmf4G AFS VR ED
Nikon 105mm F2.8G AFS-VR IF-ED Micro - my next lens?
3x SB900 Flash units
1.4x, 1.7x & 2x TC
Nikon MB-D10 Grips & spare batteries.
Nikon Commander Kit R1-C1

Arca Swiss Misura or a Mamiya 7-II with a ludicrously high sensitivity back.

Easy decision to make!

Olympus E3

7-14mm f4

14-35mm f2

35-100mm f2

I already have the camera but the lenses are just fantasy. However, I did get the chance to try a 14-35mm for a day and it was awesome - without doubt the best glass I've ever used.

Back on Earth, luckily the 14-54 mm f2.8/3.5 I currently use is a quality performer and in the Real World I'm more than happy and count myself very fortunate.

....nice to dream a little sometimes, though!

Great thread - I hope everyone's dreams come true, one day!

Everything :D in a simple word.
All the Canon kit that is avalable not 400D's and stuff only have a 1DmkIII :D

I'm quite surprised how many people have gone for an all zoom line-up. Personally, I'd prefer to have primes and suffer the limitation to my shooting options.

1Dmk3 with an 85L, 200L and the MP-E65

Bob

Modern zooms are every bit as good as older primes....for me it would be the D3 with 17-35 f2.8, 24-70f2.8, 70-200 f2.8.
I wouldn't go for the 14-24 because it is far too heavy and you cannot filter the front. I use polarisers a lot, and the 17-35 will take a polariser happily, is less than half the weight as nearly as wide.
I wouldn't go for a H digi either, they are too slow to use for what I do. Glorious results, but not convenient enough for flying about the place with - or carrying it on the bike.

Who was it wanted a D3 and 12-24? The 12-24 is only a DX version of the 17-35 on FX. You would not see any benefit of the lens on the D3, only on the D2 series and the D300 versions. You can use it, but the D3 would become a D2x or D300 when you did so.

The brighter and louder, the better :D

I was once pulled for "sounding like a pack of fighter jets", 3am - grassmarket, Edinburgh.

Oops, silly boy.

Gary.

when you say pulled, do you mean by the feds???:exit:

mmm only three lenses but no limit on camera'..so

canon 1d mk2n + 70-200 f2.8 IS
canon 1d mk2n +24-105mm f4 is
canon 1d mk2n + 400mm f2.8 IS

Mine would be
1D Mk3 (set up by someone who knows what they are doing!!)
70-200 f/2.8 IS (just about saved enough for one of these now)
100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS (got that one)
either the 300 or 400 f/2.8 (in my dreams  )

Nikon D3
24-70 AFS F2.8
70-200 F2.8 VR etc
Sigma 300-800

Easy decision to make!

Olympus E3

7-14mm f4

14-35mm f2

 fellow Oly E-3 owner :)

Already have the 7-14 F4 and the 35-100 F2 (absolutley AWESOME - if a bit heavy) along with the 12-60 & 50-200SWD

But if i was choosing just a body and three lenses it would have to be

Olympus E-3
7-14mm
12-60mm SWD
50-200mm SWD

14mm - 400mm Covered in three lenses, all with IS and non over F4.

Chris

for me it will be the:

50D
10-22mm
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.4
24-70 2.8
150 macro.
120-300 2.8

for me it will be the:

50D
10-22mm
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.4
24-70 2.8
150 macro.
120-300 2.8

The OP did state 3 lenses only. You have to think about it more then.

Nikon D3
Nikon D90 + Nikon MB-D80
Holga 120
Nikon SB900 x 3
Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8
Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8
Nikon 85mm f/1.4

D700 (D3's just too big and bulky) and a D300 (for the 1.5 x crop factor)

Sigma 12-24
Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8
Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR
and a couple of top quality TCs to suit. Maybe a set of extension rings too.
