Apologies if it's been mentioned before, but there is a programme in the Storyville series on BBC4 at the moment about an Icelandic photographer, Ragnar Axelsson, with some good stuff on there. Started at 9:00 but it's on again at 12:50 tonight. Well worth recording.

Thanks for the alert, I'm watching it now - there's some stunning images.

Chris

The half hour of that I managed to watch was great (the joys of a tiny baby;)) definitely one for iPlayer!

Thanks for the info - will record the 12.50 showing

Amazing program. I have been trying to track down a copy of 'faces of the north' for some time with no luck at all. If anyone ever hears of a copy for sale I would love to buy one!

WOW! Absolutely amazing. Thats the sort of photography I wish I could still do. Monochrome just adds to the images rather than taking anything away. A good range of equipment with different formats in use as well.

Pure photo PORN! Nice one BBC.

That was absolutely stunning. What an amazing photographer!

there has been a few on amazon recently. I found a site last week that still sells the french and german versions for about $65 brand new so I still hope to track down a similar one in english! If not, $65 for the same photos but a foreign language might be the answer.

Looks like you might be able to get a version from the publisher for 3745 Icelandic Krona (which works out at around £20). Don't know how much postage etc would be though, and it isn't clear whether they have them in stock. Might be worth an email - link to publisher

Edit - just emailed them myself, will post the reply

I watched it on iPlayer this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it, some amazing photographs, people and landscapes. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Ozei - though it is the book "Faces of the North" that is hard to get hold of. Have found it for around £20 plus another £20 postage in French or German but not in English.

Glad everyone has enjoyed the programme.

just bought the greman copy from the publisher, came out at about £36 shipped from Iceland. Cannot read german but the images speak for themselves

Going to get a look on iPlayer, sounds interesting. nThanks for the pointer.

Ah, I didn't spot that one - did you see what it was?

I can't tell one MF from another unless I see the maker's name. It had an eyepiece that extended over the back of the camera though.

And he was using that Mamiya for his documentary stuff early in the programme.

Thouroughly enjoyed watching this programme. Some amazing pictures and a great story to it.

Really enjoyed this programme, really worth a watch if you haven't seen it already:thumbs:

Sorry to awake this post from the dead, but I only just got to watch this on my sky+ and it was one of the most awe inspiring, emotive and inspirational documentaries I have watched.

It embodies everything that I love about photography. Thanks to the OP of making me aware of this, else I may have missed it entirely.

Thank you.

I agree with the above, very inspiring documentary.

I would love to get a copy of his "Faces of the North" book in English. I've just ordered the German version, can't wait for it to arrive.
