From my experience of the Samsung Galaxy Note I have a suspicion that the rollout of updates through Kies may be regulated, at least in part, by the CSC (Country sales code?) of the device. Mine came SIM free from Germany and has a CSC of "DBT". It seems the German phones are generally first in line for updates, even ahead of Korea, for example. I've had something like 5-6 Gingerbread updates through Kies since getting the phone in November. All have been effortless and painless. Still awaiting ICS for the Note, although there are custom ROMs already available, and I hope the official update for that is equally smooth.

I dare say that phones sourced through network operators and possibly locked will add to the complexity.

For me it seems as if vodafone are still testing it and they don't know when they will roll it out. I notice kies only has options to update firmware and am I right in saying the android system is seperate to that? I cant seem to find the option to check android system or am I missing something?

Vodafone ICS update for the SGS2 will be available starting tomorrow 12/04/2012

Blackout ICS - couple of things like the camera don't work which doesn't bother me

battery usage is higher though

Have you trawled through all your settings, to make sure nothing has changed as far as battery life is concerned?

My phone is around six months old, ICS instaled for a week or so. With light browsing of emails Facebokk etc. I get a full days use easily, I charge it every night.

I had less than that on the first day, then 15 hours the next then it got better and better. Didnt have to charge it last night- It was at about 60% after 15hours, didnt make many phone calls though :| Im very glad the battery issue seemed to fix itself- perhaps when i did the factory reset it cured it :shrug:

Yip. I'm on O2 and downloaded using Kies.

All my contacts and apps were transferred...apart from BBC news

Just make sure you back up first.

Overall, I can't see much difference. Battery life is same, if not better and it seems faster.
