Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy S2

It will look a bit different, might be a bit slicker but your phone won't do anything spectacularly different. I have ICS on my Touchpad and once you get used to the different layout you don't notice it anymore.
 
I'm still eagerly awaiting the update from Orange. :(
 
been running a custom ICS rom for a while now. Didn't realise how nice and smooth it is until I flashed back to a gingerbread rom....urghhh. ICS is a massive improvement IMHO
 
i thought ICS was going to be released Q2 this year for Samsungs? Ihave a note running gingerbread, and from what I see of ICS - I want!
 
Does it also include the wafers? :D

ICS as well as having a slightly different UI to Froyo/Gingerbread is also very efficient.
Plus once you have it you can download Chrome Browser (beta) which is developing nicely.

Key changes -
Drag app icon to home screen to uninstall
Widgets can be previewed and dragged to home screens to create
Change of layout to notification bar
Stock Launcher


On my Desire it is far more power and RAM efficient.

As said though, once used to it it becomes the norm.

Yes a nice touch

The data usage chart is handy too and makes any data allowance apps redundant :D
 
Going to be a couple of weeks. It's still in testing. I asked last night when I rang about my plan
 
HTC have said that their newer handsets will be upgraded in the coming days...
 
Yes 3 have rolled it out I think, I'm debating whether to change over, all the stuff looks positive :)

O2 have said mid april, all the networks are revamping the ui to what they want before it getso released.

I was running ICS, then went back to Cyanogenmod. Horrible. You don't realise how nice ICS is until you go back to Gingerbread (this is on a DHD though, not S II)

surely Kies Air - the whole thing suggests no wires needed?

Worked on my S2 and also on my note.
 
Changed mine over - still got samsung UI so some stuff has stayed the same obviously, accessing data usage and such is far easier, generally a little smoother too :)

Font type has changed too, default one. Though there's 2 others. And you can download more.

Big. As in massive. Thought the s2 was big but it is huge. Which is good for watching a film on the bus on the way home. Its basically a big s2 with a stylus which i dont see the point of.

Looks like the Sensation, Sensation XE and XL. Rest of the HTC handsets to follow close behind.
 
Change from Gingerbread to a CM9 ICS Rom,Very smooth and Fast at the moment.
Nightly updates still being rolled out to fix bugs though.
Still Very stable though for a daily Rom, had no crashes either.

Not sure what all the fuss is about so far :shrug:

The browser seems a little jerky when scrolling up & down.

Will keep playing with it. Face recognition is ok, however I reckon a picture of me would very soon unlock it.

Anyone else upgraded? Any hints I have missed so far?

O2 have released ICS officially, updated last night, just having an issue getting my email running.

You can't do the update over Kies Air it needs to be done by installing the Kies desktop application:

Then it will check for updates (I am on o2 so updated mine last night) and offer to update your phone, took around 10 minutes all together to update, no issues and worked fine all day today.

gmail app now looks a lot better, plus obviously the useful data usage tool and other things.

I agree actually.
I've been using it for a few weeks and the differences are minimal.

I guess it's what's under the bonnet that counts though.
Perhaps most of the changes are things that we don't particularly see??

I've tried a few custom ICS ROMs and so far all the ones I've tried are very buggy.
 
There are a few know bugs in 4.0.3/4 which should be ironed out in release 4.0.5
Alot of ICS is under the bonnet stuff, the biggest part being hardware acceleration and just trying to generate a unified platform that can cover a broad spectrum of devices.
Other than that it is pretty much cosmetic stuff.

Hi, OK, got to ask....I've Googled, Youtubed, etc to try and sort...installed Kies, clicked on Checked for Updates......

....I have Samsung Galaxy S2 and I'm on O2.....how do I install ICS :bonk::bonk::bonk:

Just downloaded the update for my HTC Sensation!

Went to go ahead with the installation and apparently my battery's too low to proceed, needs to be 35% or over. Now I have to wait another half an hour or so :bang:

Instal Kies and connect phone to computer via USB and not wirelessly and Kies will invite you to update, takes about15 mins and battery must be fully charged
