Stuck in the middle of my screen at the moment is a window telling me that an update is available to Trusteer Rapport EULA - seems it is something to do with an upgrade to Firefox.
Is it OK to click 'agree' to it or should I shut down and bury my head in the sofa cushions ?
Thanks for any help !

I think rapport is used by NatWest and Santander for online banking security. My computer always seems to ask if I want to install Rapport when I try to log in.

Thank you both - now you mention it Nick it is a natwest thing, and I shall follow Neil's always excellent advice and get shot of it !

How blooming fab is this place - within 15 minutes I have been given all the help and advice I need to sort out yet another computer problem.
Its almost boring to be saying 'Thanks' yet again, but it is so much appreciated !

To expand on my point slightly, its an uncessarily restrictive piece of software that I've seen lock several machines up and/or blocked all of the internet access.

Or it is a piece of client side (on your own computer) security software that can help you detect phishing attacks for your online banking details. It does get updated frequently (as you might expect for security software), and you are often prompted to refresh the install.

Neil doesn't like it. Neil doesn't like other bits of software either. Doesn't mean you shouldn't install it.

I doubt Neil will re-imburse you if your account details are hacked and your balance cleared out.

You're right I won't ;)

However any bank that demands (would they really put that in the small print?) that you need an extra bit of (poorly designed across several versions) software then they don't deserve your business. I'll run the security software I want to and know works without breaking my macine ta.

Professionally from a "keep your machine running well perspective" I've had to fix too many machines that this software broke (which was always up to date by the way). If you like a functioning machine I'd recommend uninstalling.

Assuming you already have reasonable security precautions in place of course.

Rapport is too much like a rootkit for my liking. If it gets compromised, your whole computer is blown W-I-D-E open. I bank with Santander and dismiss the weekly "download Rapport as we think it is good for you" popup. YMMV.
