weekly Ian's 52 of 2016 (Week 27; Activity added)

You'll have to have a whirl with my old Mamiya when we're out at some point. Talk about going from the sublime to the ridiculous of technologies... but its waist level finder is something to behold!
Sounds like a plan, though I fear it may give me added GAS and I'm struggling enough with it already just now.

Don't suppose you know anyone who needs a kidney?

The bench works really well for the theme Ian, B&W being the way to go.
It's good to hear that the graveyard is actually well tended and not fallen to wrack & ruin.
I don't know how I would have reacted to the gentleman's offer.

Struggled again this week. Again I had a few ideas, none of which came off as such. With the impending big reveal this week for a new topic, I bit the bullet and decided to use this shot which was taken at the weekend there up in the Old Kilpatrick Hills at the Overtoun Estate just West of Glasgow.

Completely unfit, there's a short uphill walk to get to this area before a further, steeper ascent to the top. In my defense, I did have my son strapped to my back! Taken with my Fuji X30 (and once again SOOC), this is my submission for Week 23 (Stone).

Like the view of the trees through the central hole. Might of tried a different angle to get the sky in the hole instead. Nice all the same

Cheers, Chris.

It was actually pretty deep and on a bit of a slope so not so easy to get a photo of in that respect.

Here's another I took to give you an idea of what I could see at the time.

Really like that Ian something a little different the view through the window adds a whole new dimension to the image

Beautiful bit of abstract art with that conical stone structure - like the dual textures and differing sizes and varying colours of the stonework.

Just gives a flavour as I don't think the shot really conveys the location / gradient on which it sits. Thanks :)

I really liked it too. Apparently installed as part of an upgrade to the estate and surrounding area as part of commonwealth games funding. Thanks for the comment as always, Carl.
Ooo nice sculpture that, I know it is sooc, but for me the exposure needs boosting a tad though to get some ooooomph out of it, but the colours are very nice indeed :)
I totally agree btw. It was a very, very bright day and I was struggling with the EVF in terms of seeing what I actually wanted to. Should have used the histogram in hindsight.
Love that stone structure Ian, smashing colours in those stones, and such an unusual shape, I do like the close up too ....but it's definitely the first one for the theme
Absolutely my thoughts, too Susie. The second was more to give context as I don't think the first really conveys the true shape and location of the structure.

On our way further up, a girl decided to grab a shot with her mate actually lying inside the opening! I wished I'd thought of that but don't think the wife would have gone for it anyway :)

Thats a fantastic bit of stone work agree with above comments regarding exposure, why SOOC out of interest

Good subject and a good photo for SOOC, you have got all the details, nice blue sky, lovely range of tones in the sculpture.

Laziness, Allan! My new Fuji gear makes transferring from camera to phone (and thus Flickr) so easy I have loads of photos to catalog in LR now as the laptop rarely gets fired up! In this instance, it was also a JPEG setting in camera (my X30 rather than my X-T10).

Thanks for commenting :)

Thank you very much. I'd like to get back with my X-T10 at some point and see how much I can improve it.

I've been very much impressed by everyone's submissions for this week's topic. For me, I didn't have a clue, a complete blank. Then I remember I was looking at and subsequently ordered this little beauty :)

Anyone who knows Fuji X series gear will (or should) agree that this is the epitome of simple. Total lack of hood, minuscule in size and without the aperture ring that all of the other (bar one) Fuji lenses have. I could have taken a shot with the lens but thought as it arrived this morning I'd take a shot of it.

Many will hate the processing and in all honesty I normally would too, however in this case I decided to make an exception. Hope you like my submission for Week 24 (Simple).

stone - what an interesting sculpture works great for the theme I like the through shot too.
Simple - certainly looks simple to me.

Hi Ian

Stone ... a mix of strong stone colours, great monument, got a hole too. :D

Simple ... works well, that sole 27. Shots of lenses and things have a way of showing specks of dust always, damned annoying.

Cheers for the comment. I'll leave the holes comment at that I think for fear of wandering into NSFW territory [emoji39]

The dust is a nightmare btw, you're right!

Plain and simple, works for me Ian :)

Works well the little bit of red stands out and the DoF is spot on

Simple, just enough for me, I personally like the texture and lines of the 'table' adds a little to me
Thanks a lot Chris. I tried a few surfaces before settling in this one. I'd have liked a completely plain or even reflective surface but found nothing really suitable.

Really like that for simple. The single number and the coloured marker under it along with the lines on the table work very well.
Thanks, Steve. I still think I could do better tbh and been disappointed with myself this week in terms of subject. Must try harder!
Yup, simple indeed and the red realy pops.

Cheers.
Cheers. As much as the target was simple, I couldn't resist!

Many thanks. The Helios is a cracker for shallow DoF when needed.
I'm not really into camera lenses but I appreciate your expertise on this one, a perfect choice for the theme.
Thank you, Susie. Much appreciated :)

I simply agree with the comments above, nice clean shot of a simple lens.

Very nice Ian. You know what I particularly like, apart from the obvious DoF and vignette? The vertical lines in the lens set contrasting against the diagonal lines of the woodgrain ... strange but true.

Thank you, sir.
That is a lovely little lens, and I bet it gives great results... I like your processing, nice texture to the wood and DoF just right too :)
I hope to find out soon enough. Fancy trying some Glasgow Street photography!

You and me both, Carl! Can't beat a good vignette :) Thanks for commenting.

Hi Ian

Nice image for Stone. Not entirely sure what it is, but it's intriguing and you've captured it well. Nicely positioned shadow to avoid it confusing the scene and good direction of hard light to bring out the depth in the stonework. Nice!

I also really like your second image - you wouldn't have thought they were the same structure! Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?!

Simple - really nicely done. I'm not an SC fan but this is so subtle it works. I like your choice not to have all of the lens in focus... well thought out and executed (y)

Hi Ian.

Stone - Well that's an interesting 'thing'...
Nicely captured with some great colours. I'm glad you kept as much as possible in sharp focus rather than blurring the background.

Simple - A nice touch with the wood grain providing a diagonal leading line to the lens.

Hi Paul and thanks for the comments as always. I'm not generally a fan of SC myself either but given the subject thought it looked better with that tiny little spot of colour to make it pop a bit.

I'm not sure what the structure is either btw, but I like it! Perspective is indeed a wonderful thing. I know the single photo doesn't really show it so thought I'd add the second to give a little more detail :)

Thanks, Tim. Much appreciated! Whilst I do love a bit of shallow DoF, I did think that the stone 'thing' needed a bit more detail to stop it being a bit......well, boring!

The lens is a little boring tbh, hence the SC. That said, the theme was 'simple'!

Hi Ian, Paul has said it all for me. 2 themes well executed and the Simple shot is :clap:

Thanks Jill :)

Found myself with a bit of catching up to do this week! Courtesy of the pretty crap weather we've had and hectic schedule this last week, I've struggled in getting shots I'm happy with.

Having taken a couple of this earlier today / this evening, I'm happy to present what I have to make sure I don't fall three weeks back! In all honesty, I'm happy enough with the results even if they weren't my first choice of subject. As follows are my submissions for Sign (x2) and Flora.
