Yes
... not so long ago there was a fairly constant stream of Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses in the classifieds.

Now that I've decided to buy one where are they all

C'mon folks, don't hoard them

Hmm, I really don't use mine as much as I should to justify keeping it - have you got a 'wanted' thread?

LOL. I bought the 28-70 instead, and saved a few quid.

I did think about it but already have a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and just know that if I don't go for the 24-70 now I'll be back in a few months after one :D

you could try the nikon f/2.8 28-70 ?

Hi Steve .....looks like we are lining up now :-)

Same with me and 35mm. Loads of 35mm 1.8s here recently, now I want one, nothing for sale.

I think they are in short supply currently because rumour has it cannon have pulled production on the old version as the new version is coming out soon, which apparantly has a whacking great price tag to boot, so I think most who have them will be holding them tightly :)

According to Canon Rumours, Canon have officially discontinued the following items

Canon Speedlite 580EX II
Canon EF 24 f/2.8
Canon EF 28 f/2.8
Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L

From what I gather the EF 24-70 f/2.8L is already difficult to source. As for the others, the biggest loss will be the Speedlite 580EX II.

Whilst the newer 24 and 28mm will probably be an improvement over their older and optically inferior predecessor, its a shame that Canon have seen fit to hike the prices of the 600EX and 24-70 MKII

Erm OP is talking about NIKON !

Hi Steve,
I was just about to offer my condolences about your parrot when I saw the title of the thread (sorry about that, especially when I don't have the lens you are looking for)
Ken

Lucky you I'm still waiting to be allowed into the classified's, btw was there any Nikon 70-200 f2.8's?

There were a couple at about £100 each but I think they've gone now :p

The 24-70 f2.8 is such a good lens I'm surprised there are actually any of them for sale on here at all.....

It might as well be welded to my D700!

Also their seem to be a lot of stuff, that you used to be able sell very quickly hanging around.

So i think a lot of people are hanging on to their stuff, unless they really need to get rid of it :)

I had the same... wanted a Nikon 18-35 and fortunately there was one. Decided that I liked wide lenses again and so sold it with the 16-35 in mind. Now I cant afford one, it took bloomin ages to get an 18-35 again. Had to resort to the bay as well. :/

I'm hoping the Nikon patent for the 16-30mm lens comes to fruition; 16-30mm is an ideal range for me!
