It's difficult to comment on what you've done without seeing the original images. There are some dodgy (or should that be undodged) white bits on the lower right of that first shot around some of the branches.

I quite like your second shot, but it's hard to comment without knowing exactly what you've done and what your intention was.
 
I prefer your crop in the first one and I think your edit has improved the overall tone, but I much prefer the original shot of your rose to the edit.

It matters not though - all time spent playing about editing is good. :thumbs:
