I have a bucket list item; i want to sell a photograph. I don't care how much I get for it, I just want to sell one.

Is there a list of sites wherein I can post pictures that people look through with the possibility of a sale? I care not about the amount of commission the site takes, 99% for all I care, I just want to be able to say I've done it.

Nothing wrong with that Martin.

Are you after a free site or are you willing to pay a bit to put your offerings out there ?

Since in my heart of hearts I don't really expect to sell any then a free site seems the likely place. To be honest I would be quite happy for someone to use an image of mine commercially even without payment; just a credit. As I said, it's just a bucket list thing.

Some other bucket list items fulfilled so far:

Played on stage in a band
Got some writiing published in a photo mag
Trained an (apparently) untrainable dog
Escorted my daughter down the aisle -- well, actually it was in the gardens of the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi, but that's got to be pretty noteworthy.

Some of the things still to do:

1) Go a day without drinking wine (not too enthusiastic about that one)
2) Reach 70 years old (unlikely, see (1) 'wine' above)
3)Be fluent in French (also unlikely but I am trying)
4) Complete a 52 challenge (depends on (2) above)
5) Outlive Tony Blair (crucial, this one)
6) Learn to be happy with my lot
and so on...

#1 on the left to do list should be easy. As for selling a photo, does it have to be to a stranger? If not, maybe your daughter would buy a candid taken at her wedding if you managed one?

Snapwire is quite fun - you submit to the specific briefs you like the sound of and the client chooses which to buy. Or there's Foap which runs briefs but also puts your photos into a generic marketplace for anyone to buy at a fixed price (think its about $10)

This, if number one is serious which I hope not then you should seek help!

A photo per week, ideally (but not necessarily) on a theme.

Have you thought about signing up with the various stock libraries? I get anything from 15 to 50 sales a month with them. It isn't enough to live on (expensive wife and kids) but it tops up other incomes.

Mark, not to go off topic but how many images have you got on the books of stock libraries to be making a good number of sales like that? I've currently got a few dozen sitting on Getty and only shift a few a month.

Totally understand that, must be a great feeling (never had such pleasure) to know somebody tough your work was good enough they would pay for it :)

picfair.com is worth a look, it's free, you set the price and they just add 20% commission on a sale. Even I've sold one on there :)

Thanks for the recommendation - I put a few photos up on there a fortnight ago and have already started selling.

I think picfair is the one for me. It seems relatively simple and straightforward and suits my requirements, I particularly like the 'single use' policy and not for advertising either as while I want to sell an image I don't want lots of people making lots of money out of a picture I sold for a fiver as that would stick in my craw a little.

Now, all I have to do is take some pictures that someone might want to buy! Hmm.:nailbiting::snaphappy:

Well, you've got the gear Martin, and the world is just waiting for you to come along and shoot it. :)

I presume as you are selling the licence to the pictures to Picfair who licence them on to third parties there is no need to register under the VAT MOSS scheme from 1st January 2015.

well - after reading this thread, I thought i'd experiment and throw a couple of my shots onto Redbubble - they're nothing special, and certainly nothing I expected to retire on the procedes from but... amazingly enough, apparently with 25 pretty "meh" images online for a fortnight, and around 1600 "views" I've actually made a sale.

Thing is, it's probably the worst of the images I put on there, but someone decided they wanted it wrapped around their Mobile phone...

I wonder if novelty trumps almost everything else for the 'ordinary' public?

Audi drivers...

Yeah, imagine how upset they'd be if they knew it was a w-reg A3 with an interstellar mileage on it and hadn't been washed for around 4 years at the time the picture was taken  Amazing what you can do by putting "Quattro" "Gene Hunt" and "Life on Mars" in the keywords...
