Yes
Went to John Lewis today to buy a 35mm af-s lens for my d5000, the chap popped it on a d7000 for me to test it, and I instantly fell in love with it!

Damn you John Lewis!!!

Looking at one myself.

I know it's a totally different ball game to my existing D2x but it does have a pretty good sensor and the video function is attractive for what I need.

Had a play at Focus2012 and was impressed. It's a small body, smaller than I'd normally go for, but it's a good stop-gap for me seeing as Nikon hasn't upgraded its Dxxx range yet. The AF was impressive; used it with a luscious 200mm f/2, but also with a 24-120mm, which wasn't wide enough for my taste at 24mm for a crop sensor but it seemed swift and accurate. Gripped it feels more substantial (obviously) but the overall impression I got from it was of a camera that had good (read: almost pro) build quality at its core, something you don't always associate with this price point and body size.

I am completely new to photography but it is something I have wanted to get into for years. I spent 3 months researching what camera to go for and was advised by lots of friends to go for a Nikon. I ended up choosing the D7000 one of the positive reasons was the video function. So far I have been thoroughly impressed with it but being a beginner I am still trying to get to grips with the 100's of settings it has lol.

 I think I'm going to go for it! Any idea what I'd get for my d5000 with 18-55 kit lens less than 5,000 actuations?

Btw, £80 cash back on the d7000 this month

I went from a D5000 to D7000... and I'm delighted :)
not that I'm trying to influence you or anything!

Sweet!

I'm especially impressed by the screen, did you find the screen on the 5000 particularly poor? I find I can't properly review photos I've taken, it's total guess work as the screen is such poor quality!

the screen on my D5000 was good, although not as good as the D7000

Quick question, has the hot pixel issue been fixed that was mentioned previously?

And, other than the issue with the buffer on continuous shooting, are there any other issues that I should know of?

You can have mine, it's poo....

Bought from Jacobs mid March, already been back to Nikon *** it's soooo soft and front focus is off the chart..
They had it for 3 weeks along with my 70-300 VR which is also soft as poo...
Both came back with engineering notes saying they have been adjusted..
still really poor...
Spoke to Nikon again and sent examples with different lenses.. They say it's faulty and I need to send it in again ....

I have a D90 and a D300 that are fine.... just in case some think I am a Canon user.. ;o)

ATM I don't have the time or energy to be arsed to send them back or drive the 50miles round trip to Jacobs again...

That's a bit of a shocker to be fair! Is the autofocus not working? Is it obvious that there's a problem when proofing?

Autofocus is fine and quick, even in low light.. you only really spot the problem when using wide aperture lenses and fine that the focus is not on what it should be !!
Nikon know there is a problem... You can spot the problem when proofing yes.. especially when using a focusing chart..
It's just such a faf to have to ship it off and then wait for it to be shipped back sometime in the future when you know no one will be in.. I could always send it back for a refund and wait for a D600 !!
