"i want a camera..."

The only issue I have with jessops is their constant attempts to sell me used or exdemo stock as new. Not just from one store even. I'll always tell people that if you do buy from jessops, take a careful look to see if it is brand new.

today in jessops
a young couple came in and asked
"i want a camera that takes picture where the subject(her child) is in focus but everything else blurred"
they had know idea what they wanted and the man said we want a DSLR or compact
but do they do the same
she was going on about how she wanted to learn how to use a camera
they didnt even know if they had the right memory card at home for it.

they ended up buying a £350 pentax and it only took 15 minutes from going in to walking out with it

seems a bit rushed really

Wow that's pretty shocking really - person in buying a camera shocker

It's a pity the salesman didn't spend a few minutes explaining 'depth of field' to create the effect they were after, as it is the couple will in all probability blame the camera when things dont go as planned. Although I've not used Jessops for many years, it seems the staff are still the half wits that didn't understand the basics all those years ago :(

This is the society that we live in these days, surely.

HELP the customer??
What a strange concept.

Sadly this is true, however there are retailers (usually independants) where advice is freely offered and the customer is valued. A certain Nikon dealer in Westminster provides this service, there are others. I would rather pay a little more for customer service, knowing that if I have a problem I can discuss it with an inteligent human being.

i have been in the same jessops 4 days in a row
1 bloke i spoke to knew less than me
didnt really understand what i was on about
and then said 'they just get taught the basics''and how to sell'
Thats handy when people come in and what some infomation on cameras but get very little

he told me i could have any deal i wanted on the 7D but there are only 3 set deals they do
and also said i could get money off but the manager turned round and said no

Sorry, but what do you expect at Christmas?

The shops all take on temp staff to cover the extra workload, with barely time to train them. I should know, I work in HMV, and would expect their seasonal methods to be similar to ours.

As for Jessops, i'll stick up for them here. The shop in the shopping centre where i work (a huge centre, based in Essex) was excellent in helping me decide which camera to buy a while ago. The lady (admittedly above average retail age) knew her stuff, and was chatty and welcoming. She was objective while letting me try various Nikon and Canon cameras. I even felt bad for not buying there in the end!

I don't really see the OP's point. I'm sure there are hundreds and thousands of people out there with cameras that they don't get the most out of (probably a few on this board). It's irrelevant though. People buy what they want and can afford.
