Looking at the state of the glass, I believe it is!

That's one expensive doorstop. State of the front element, jeez. Gotta love Fleabay.

Just added to my watch list as I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would bid........ I am interested to see how much it goes for as you can't even fit a filter to it:cuckoo:

Seems that if his last set of items went - this will remain unsold as well

But as its ebay - someone will buy it then give -ve fb regarding the state of it & then want a full refund :suspect:

Looks totally worn out and abused to me , dont think i,ll be having a bid :shake:

LOL!!! That is fantastic, how the hell would you even get a lens in that state without either taking a screwdriver to it or dropping down a ravine?!

Well as its a Canon may be he's been firing Cannon balls from it or even on it

But on a serious note it seems to be well made to with stand that abuse thou....

From looking at his feedback history he bought this 11 days ago for the princely sum of £450 described much the same as he has.....proving that there are some mugs still out there!:cuckoo:

More like 'un-loved' Look at the postage charge too! He's avin a larf! :cuckoo:

Nope, that's about the only genuinely priced part of the Ad, if anything it's a touch cheap.

RMSD for 2kg+ with up to £1k insurance = £23.60

Well he quotes Express Delivery, which probably means courier, normally around a tenner!

I wouldn't be surprised if the optical quality is still perfectly good.
Gonna struggle to sell it, looking like that though.

TBH they have both stated that in the listing, but its just the overall condition, filters donot fit and gets tight at 200mm.

Possibly this buyer purchased the lens hoping that some of the inner elements were salvageable for another repair job?

I bought a 70-200mm f/2.8 that looked rough, but the buyer provided me an invoice showing the repair bill from Canon where it had about 5 or 6 elements replaced and the AF fine tuned.

Half new optics (inc front element) in an abused outer case, all for the bargain price of about £350.

He says its a bargain so it must be, it is eBay after all! I'll bid just incase I get a Canon camera!

I think lots of you may be surprised at the poor state lenses can maintain good performance in.

I had a sigma with a damaged from element, the scratch was about 1cm low is centre and was fairly significant. Ironically believed to have been caused by the lens cap coming loose. This scratch in no way effected the optical performance of the lens at any aperture. I had it repaired before selling it and the cost of a new front element was £125.

If this lens in the link is mechanically fine, then it might optically perform fine, even if it doesn't the price of front elements isn't that horrific. (granted its going to be more for a Canon than my Sigma was) If the price was cheap it might be worth a punt.

See, I'd be tempted if it were going for about £300 and then I'd throw it at Canon Esltree for repair.

The problem with the above is that it is not £300 its min £510! Which is ridiculous.

Ok, it 'may' be optically ok, but, really, would you spend £510 at least on that? I know I would not!

Well the seller needs to make at least 60 profit :P besides you won't find that lens so cheap elsewhere! filters are useless anw :D

Even if you could put filters on, I would add some more and get something at least half-decent looking!!!

Check out part 2 though,

Im guessing the marks on the front element wont make any difference. Lenses dont focus the image onto the front element, scratches can reduce contrast slightly but I doubt you would notice any problem with that one.

The general state of it would be an indication it has been abused a bit though, and there may be other problems with it. Would want to test it out.

I got mine cheap with a marked front element. You can't tell from the pics.

I've a 30D you can bid on - as I've just acquired 'Classified' status I can sell it to you now

Def went down a ravine IMO. Looks like it rolled down a mountain side......:gag:

I've learned my lesson the hard way from ebay. Bought a used 70-200 2.8 IS which "had a few marks". Got it and the filter ring was dented and the image stabilisation was totally knackered.

Got a sizeable refund for the lens and sold it on at no loss to someone who was aware of the faults. Got a nice new one and haven't looked back.

If a lens has that kind of damage to it you have to consider what could be wrong with the internals. Could be ready to go altogether. Not worth the risk.

One word...OUCH!

I wouldn't buy that with someone else's money, let alone my own!

 the starting bid has dropped by £14 - :suspect: maybe the starting bid should be £14 :p Canon lens must say they're persistant
