comes with an english manual so thats not too bad - my grey import came with one in japanese. Took me about 10 mins of googling to check the menus on the back to find the language settings :D

this bit of the ad sounds ok, whether they live up to it, is another matter:

Warranty Method For Imported item,

In case of any problem we offer our customer free collection and return service anywhere in the World for first year. Rest of warranty period customer can send the item back to us in UK or take it to the local Canon Shop and get it fixed we pay all the cost of repair.

Warranty Card

Being imported item, We keep all the warranty record for items. As a proof of purchase we issue invoice and advice to keep it safe for future warranty claim. Note this warranty does not cover any physical damage or liquids spill etc.

Hi, Looking myself for a 6D, Panamoz came out the cheapest so far but they don't post to Greece don't no why it's in the EU:( hdewcameras came out at £899 + P&P waiting to hear from DigitalRev.

The eBay seller offers Argos Click and Collect, and is UK VAT registered.

I'd rather buy from the eBay seller who says he supplies a VAT receipt and has the associated eBay and Paypal protection than buying from Portus who aren't vat registered and don't supply vat invoices.
 
Thank you all for your impute on this,it is always a bit of a worry when spending nearly a grand on anything over the net.

Just to add, the eBay seller appears to be a B&M retailer in London, definitely the better choice over the other options mentioned for cheap/grey stock.

Indeed, the shop appears to be the same company as e-vap.org, the B&M shop is a vaping shop with no sign of a camera in sight. Perfectly legitimate but to think of them and B&M camera / computer retailer appears to be a little amiss based upon my limited Googling skills. I would guess they are grey importers as with the rest (Panamoz, Hdew, Portus etc.), vat receipt or no vat receipt.

Please take this the nicest possible way but if you're happy going the grey route then i think you'd be insane to ignore the regular highly praised services of Hdew, Portus, Panamoz etc. Both Hdew and Portus have the camera at £899, cheaper than the ebay seller and with a 3 year warranty and you can pay via CC. Hdew certainly have proven a number of times on here and other forums to offer exceptional service both before and after the sale, my own experience of Portus is similar (haven't had need to use them for warranty purposes however).

I would agree with you about HDEW, partly agree about Panamoz and totally disagree about Portus, they have plenty of bad press around if you search and their entire UK 'operation' is a small residential property to the side of an NFU office.

They have no shop, make you agree that you are the lawful importer in their T&Cs (even though the goods are supposedly in the UK) and point blank refuse to supply VAT invoices or details of UK registration.

At least Panamoz are relatively upfront in their business model and HDEW are a bona fide UK business (as is the retailer on eBay that the OP is considering).

The ebay seller doesn't appear to have a shop either, well a vapping shop under a different name but same address. Certainly they are a limited company but the impression of a B&M computer / camera shop for them doesn't appear to hold much water (happy to be proven wrong).

Hdew rightly get lots of love here as a UK supplier of grey kit, Portus seems smaller but certainly couldn't find anything negative. Did a quick Google for "portus digital problems" and nothing alarming in the first few pages. Can you post the "plenty of bad press around if you search" content please due to my failing Google skills, genuinely interested what i missed and will help my buying choices in the future. Thanks.

Putting aside from the business practices in terms being a grey importer (we know), what makes you not trust them? Can't find anyone ripped off by Portus or Hdew here, what did your search find that i missed.

So the threads relate to business practices of their vat status, ok. As i said we get that, if you go grey even with Hdew (unless requested) you won't be getting a vat receipt but fair play they will provide it and are a limited company.

So vat aside and what appears to be the odd shill (questionable granted), where are the horror stories? Or specifically as you put it "plenty of bad press" as a vat thread and a couple of shills on here doesn't equal that.

So you think the threads and reviews are "good press" then? They appear to be a dishonest person operating out of a residential property and trying to give the impression that they are a UK company, they refuse to discuss VAT or duty status, have no UK business registration or VAT registration and have some sneaky elements in their T&Cs, they also use shills on forums.

In my opinion, that is bad press not a good impression.

Why deal with them when there are better, more reputable grey dealers if you want to go grey?

Even the retailer the OP was actually asking about is a far better proposition being a UK registered company that is VAT registered and supplies VAT invoices with all purchases.

No, the whole two threads you linked are neither good nor bad press imo and do really define them as "plenty"? You question the business practices related to their vat / company status taking that a step further whether they pay their fair share of tax i imagine, fair play valid because it matters to you. I don't consider the terms Portus displays clearly visible in the T&Cs sneaky, the same terms that are included by Hdew as well (http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/faq-2-w.asp very bottom of the page, less visible that the rest of the text).

My concern is primarily if i order the goods will they arrive in the condition they describe, in a timely manner with no foreseeable headaches in the future. Hdew, Portus, Panamoz tick those boxes, i've used the 'dreaded' Simply Electronics in the past without problems (now they genuinely have awful reviews for service levels, refunds and what not). I can't find much of an actual bad word about Portus, no ripped off customers, missing items, old stock being sold as new etc. They as with Hdew have been around for a number of years and seem to deliver exactly what they promise judging by the 'good press' i've read and service i have personally received.

Oh well, everyone has an opinion, some people even have strange ones...

You want to use them, no one is stopping you. Other people might just think there are better options.
 
Another +1 for HDEW. Bought a couple of lenses and a 5D3 from then. Great service.
