OK, so a while ago I set up one of those free weebly websites to showcase some of my work. it was free and I then thought I would try and get it up google after someone found me on google.

so I changed my SEO bit (where the weebly site says to change it) and also entered a few sentances that had my google search term in them. They are just text words. I managed to get the search term into the home page twice but with slight variations. I also got it in twice on my contact page.

It worked. within 2 month it rose from page 5 to page 2 of ggole. It nearly made page 1!

But now it has gone. does anyone think I have done something wrong? I picked up a booking recently from being quite well off on the google rankings too...

This is the reason why people use adwords. I've lost a lot of money relying on continuous income from continuous rankings; Google adjusts their criteria all the time and one day your site might be number one, then something gets changed and suddenly you're nowhere to be seen.

I doubt you've been kicked off but you can see by logging into google webmaster tools. This will tell you if your site is indexed.

The google search algorithm changes on an almost daily basis and it's not uncommon for websites to move up and down the serps.

Keywords whilst still relevant are not as powerful as inbound links to your site. Google use these links to gauge the quality of the information contained on your pages. The logic is that if other websites are linking to your site it must be an authority on the subject.

Where keywords matter are in the links themselves. So a link saying 'Click Here' isn't as valuable as a link saying 'Stunning Landscape Photography'.

Your positioning in Google no only changes on a daily basis, but from the location in which the search has been placed, and now, even more confusingly (thanks to Google's Personal Search) some web users may never, randomly, stumble upon websites!

Photography websites are hard websites to promote using only SEO, as there is so little content used in them.

One method that may help you drive more traffic to your website would be to post a blog. The more frequently you can post, the more frequently google will come back to your website and re-"crawl" it.
Within your posts you should try to have a reasonable amount of keyword density relating to the post, also link to your images within the post, and be sure to include the same keywords in the link title, the post title and the images alt tags.

Have you got Analytics installed on your website? That will tell you where visitors are coming from and how many are from search... which will help when trying to figure out what's going on.
