Yes
I don’t think I’ve ever experienced GAS like it (and not the post Sunday dinner variety either) I seriously believe it’s going to ruin me in one way or another.

I’ve not long jumped on the film bandwagon and I’ve hardly shot any films, yet I have a burning desire to continually buy film cameras. There’s just something about them.

Film cameras currently on my want list;

· Leica –because why not

· Hasselblad 500 series – because they look awesome

· Hasselblad Xpan – read the other chaps thread about Xpans and its set me off

· Rolleiflex 2.8 TLR – Stunning looks

God help me if I ever get into large format. I doubt anyone is going to be able to offer me a cure but knowing others out there suffer as much as I do would make me feel better.

Now slow down there fella, we've all been there and it takes some time to wear off (although it never goes away completely). :D

I know exactly what you mean and I've been down that and many nearby roads. The thing is that I found when I buy a camera, try it out and sell it on for something else shiny and new that I very rarely lose any money on them. Chose wisely and be patient, you've plenty of time to work your way through many cameras.;)

So many cameras...

So little time.

:)

I've got it under control. I only have 14 cameras.

Completely under control.

14 pah! a rank amateur... I'm on 19 with the 20th on the way.

I think I have a problem....

I never had it this bad with digital. I do however attribute a portion of the problem down to me being able to surf the internet at work, which invariably leads to my mind wandering to things slightly more interesting that what I'm currently involved in.

I never had it as much with digital either  I think I can nail it down to three things: 1) film cameras are cheaper so I convince myself I can buy more of them. 2) film cameras vary much more than digital so it's almost like you need one of every type 3) film cameras are much nicer to look at, more interesting and are often much older, so it's more like a a collection than just buying digital cameras to use.

One day I'm going to have my own bookcase with loads of different cameras on it. But first I need to acquire more cameras. And also a bookcase.

If you have plenty of spare cash get what you want as you only have one life and with film cameras if you make a bad choice you'll only lose hundreds of £££s i.e small sums......for me, I've gone past all that (must be an age thing) and I'm happy playing with a SLR camera even bought for £2 and with the right old lens it would come close to the Leica offerings for results.
I was out sunday testing the FM when I started talking to a pro with a Nikon D7000 and of course the conversation started with him saying "I had one of those years ago", anyway he showed me everything it could do and said you can pick up a S/H body for about £300 and AAMOI interest on a shoot thinks nothing of taking 1000 shots...well it beats me why some guys are spending £2500 on a Sony A7RII..when it is the photographer that make the shot (good or bad).....so it seems if you have the money get what you want..h'mm I've already said that.

Steve.
I hope you are embarrassed.
I'm waiting on a Contax 137 MD, should be here tomorrow.
Just need a 137 MA to complete this set...

Your wishlist is basically the same as mine! Although OBVIOUSLY you need to add an Ebony LF to that . . .

Currently only own 3, not including digtal or a pinhole. Only ever use 2.

I have a dreaded fascination with 617, but can't afford either a 5x7 LF camera (another Ebony, needless to say) or a dedicated 617 camera. Expensive taste? I call it an eye for quality :D

I'm the same....

I can resist everything except temptation.:D

Whaaaaaat? Do you keep them all stored away or are they all out on display? If so then I need to see a photo of them all :D

Most are on display. I will post some pictures later.

About ten years ago, myself and my father started collecting a few cameras. I have now inherited his collection which is why I have so many.

Steve.

My film GAS burnt out after about two years of car boot sale camera collecting (following my return to film). I probably bought around fifty cameras. No Leicas or Blads though. Just sort of caught up with eighty years of film camera technology.

I've settled down to just two or three quite different film cameras that I really like. A Bronica SQ medium format system that I really like. A couple of pathetic little 35mm compact Olympus XA2's. And occasionally something different like an Agfa Isolette folder, or a Kodak box camera.

To be honest, the sooner that you burn it out the better. Then concentrate on making photos.

I've only got a Yashika 35 ME, a Rollei B35 and a Canon AE-1.

In the last 2 weeks!
I dare not count how many other I have.

Well I can't resist a bargain (crab) and last count I had sixteen 28mm lenses, but erm I prefer 24mm..shame I've only got about six of those.

I think you're right but it seems some of us have to go through it. I found I could afford some of the cameras I lusted after in my younger days. It was great to go through that but it didn't make my photography any better in fact maybe worse. I could never decide what to use!

I think I have come to terms with it now and I'm getting close to what I need more than what I lust after.

I've got basically one camera in each niche, my 54 for lf, my rb67 as my general purpose slr, a super ikonta as a pocket sized walk about and 3 OM bodies I consider one camera with multiple backs.

I really need a tlr....

I know exactly where you are coming from. I remember in the 80s, when I could only afford 35mm compact cameras, and my brother owned a new AE-1. Something like a Bronica would have been beyond a dream for me.

I'm stil hoping to find that working Leica at a car boot sale. One day.

i have a irational wants from time to time now, kinda want a tlr with instant back, but dont know why. i got a rb67 and instant back anyways...

Sounds about right.

Have you also factored in:

Bank account = b - e^(x), where b is your current balance, and

Spouse_hassel = x!

Ha! Bank account is why my count is only 11. Extraneous factors play no part at all. Oh no. No reason at all to keep a little purchase from a shop in Manchester in my pocket until friends turned up. None at all - it just wasn't the right time to produce it. It's a bit like the why do you need it on 180gm vinyl when you have it on cd thing. Hum.

I can only imagine (being a singly) that all your wives and girlfriends must be super proud of your camera collections and want to show them off to friends and family at every opportunity. I bet they get the most prominent display positions as well.

Do you have a spare Distagon T* ? :)

Well I can't speak for anyone else but mine's not very impressive! Mostly bought cheaply but I love using them. Great Lomo effects from the rubbish. Just wish I could use the good ones better. I'll keep trying.

My collection is expending slowly but surely. I started with a 135 just to try out film, just to see if i liked it. I got an olympus om1 (which was in poor shape and I just replace it with a good condition one (I have a 35mm and a 100mm lens for them and it's an ideal holiday combo).

Then I started scanning and decided medium format will help and I bought a bronica 6x6 and for sure looking at big negs is awesome. Then I couldn't resist on a pentax 645 for the incorporated lightmeter, data inprint and autofocus, all the bell and whistle of modern dslr. That such a nice camera.

I recently got given a point and shot, a Nikon lf35 which i didn't though would be my cup of tea but I put a test roll through and actually i love it, it's small, light, easier, cheap and cheerful and perfect for black and white with a filter threat and the light sensor within the lens so the filter don't skew the exposure, great "always in the bag" camera.

I have to say If their something i would like as collector it would be an old folder and a pin hole but really I can't justify it, but if in a charity shop or a car boot sale i find one, i'll surely go for it!

But I hate the idea of camera sitting around and doing nothing, i'd rather they get use and get loved. I gave my bronica to a friend as a long term loan as i use the pentax as the moment and I was thinking to sell it. But each time i see a well composed 6x6 i think, i can't sell it. You do get attached to these beasties.

So yes you do end up getting attached to all these bit and pieces. I am not attracted by the expensive camera you mentioned in your first post apart maybe for the xpan but that way out of my budget and don't even think about this kind of thing like i wouldn't think to buy an old rolls-royce. For me film and digital too has to stay within a reasonable budget and I never have two camera that will produce virtually the same picture and have the same usage. I think i will need to make a choice between the bronica and the pentax and one will have too go sometime soon!

That right there is why I should stop going to car boot sales and charity shops :S I saw an old Brownie Reflex sitting neglected on a table among a load of crap at a local car boot. It was raining slightly and everything was getting wet. I looked down at it's little eyes (lenses) and I saw it cry for help. So I gave the lady the £2.50 she wanted and picked him up and put him in my dry pocket. After a little clean at home and a bit of fiddling to get it clean, he now sits smiling on my desk next to his new friends.

And they all lived happily ever after!
