Yes
Sat in my top floor flat today, with the veranda door open, and nothing in the way of a photo opportunity. We heard an almighty noise earlier on, thought it was motorbikes racing. Only just found out, it was the Red Arrows flying past our back door window :(.

You'll be in Blackpool then, yes?

We saw them as well. No idea what they were doing. Just presumed they were on their way from one Air Show to another. Was there a show at Blackpool or Windermere? Maybe they'd been there and were returning to base?

I think it was Southport Airshow, someone said there was a Lancaster and a Spitfire going over Otterspool Park, towards Southport. Apparently the Red Arrows also went screaming past, also towards Southport. It is on in Blackpool tomorrow, it seems.

at cricket yesterday someone shouted red arrow display and pointed up.... nearly.... perfectly formed V formation of Ducks or Geese :)

I will have to find out what it was, ideally I should have known before hand.

Having had a similar experience as yours with the Red Arrows even when I found out where they were scheduled to be their appearance over my house made no apparent sense.

No, that's not until September. Friday night flying this year. Don't know what that means. Coloured lights/smoke etc? Might be worth a look for once.
Will have a search on the net, and see what is happening, and when.
Mind you, I will struggle to get any meaningful photos from where I am. Not unless I try and get really close to the action. Only got a 35mm prime, or could try with the fuji X10.

We did wait for the Red Arrows a year or so ago, loads of us with our cameras at the ready. Apparently they came up the river, from a different direction from what was originally planned. Even the tannoy announcer, had no idea what had happened. Maybe that is what makes them so exciting :).

Trouble is you can't get too close for the "proper" display. Bootle Council have it all cordoned off as a money making exercise and boy does it cost. We refuse to go on principle.
So...you can go and stand in the sand dunes at the start of the flypast and get some decent shots, but you have to know where to park your car. The Politburo in Bootle has that angle covered as well. If you don't mind static shots you can go to Woodvale. Most of the military use that as a base. Park on the foot/cycle track and take a ladder to get shots over the fence, or though the holes in the gate. You'll see them take off and land if you CBA waiting long enough. (Or come and sit in our garden with a pint in your hand and wait for them to fly over!)

Looks like it will be a long lens thing then, think I have an old manual focus one, knocking about someplace :).

THIS is a handy page where the Red Arrows' schedule can be found. Not a great deal of help for fly pasts but if you know you're under their projected flight path, I'm sure you can work it out! The "Display season transit times" link is usually updated weekly.

Nod, as ever you are a mine of information. Prove just how good you are by explaining what the "L" after the display times mean.

At a guess, Likely - but that's just a guess. As is Latest news.

Apparently, 3 of the team are so disappointed that the Dawlish Air Show is cancelled this year that they decided to turn up for the town's carnival instead. Not going to be easy to get to a suitable vantage point but I reckon I'll be able to get close enough to walk by taking the bike to visit a friend who lives very close. Will try if the weather looks promising.

Very helpful, and informative link (y).

Just looking through old threads, and it was July 2012 that I was at Rhyl air show. I thought it was only a year or two ago. I just can't recall what camera I took. Looks like I will have to look through my old hard drive.

Here's a link for the Southport event.

Not altogether sure what extras Friday night bring. It's only £6.50 or £45 if you want to get onto the pier!
I won't be going Sat/Sun. Crowds are horrendous and organisation the last couple of years has been a disaster (thank you again, Bootle), but could be tempted by Friday night.
Might have an X-T2 by then - so long as SWMBO can be bypassed!

They were based at broughton Nr Chester on Friday and Saturday ,my lad got some super taking off shots from his vantage point

You might have said!

BTW...Have you seen or heard from Nat lately? He's not been pestering me to "improve" his Cathedral shots lately. Is he OK?

Wasn't even sure I was going .only had a compact with me but the Mrs wanted to see them so we ended up at the end of the runway ,they took off three abreast ,ash found a better vantage point with his 100-400 and got some super ones ,don't forget Rhyl air show at the end of the month

This time, I should be more aware what is happening in front of me !
Was out in the City Centre this morning, going to the hospital with the missus. Waiting to cross a busy road, heard sirens in the distance, and assumed it was an ambulance. It was about six police cars, some un marked chasing a hot hatch. The car being chased, skidded and nearly toppled over.

I was annoyed with myself after, as I had the fuji X10 on me, and it was already in video mode .
