Possibly because the conquistadors were the forerunners of that form of settlement/invasion.

I think this type of invasion started long before the Spanish. Certainly the Romans and probably others such as the Greeks and Persians.

When I see a picture like that it worries me. Pictures of civilians holding guns are troubling.

As I understand things 'Merica has separation of state and church so surly any kind of "Christmas" message from a political figure would be illegal?
In fairness they all seem to have had some safety training in firearms handling so maybe this is a "responsible firearms ownership" message?
If we are talking about the Christian message I would say Psalm 28:34 is the most misunderstood in the US of A.
