Beginner I realise I'll get flamed for wanting to aquire yet another camera but...

As you have said in another thread, you're happy with your current Sony so stop wasting your money. How much have you spent so far on the wrong stuff due to rushing in?

Isn't that GAS which most of us suffer from!

Too much! :crying:

I looked it up yesterday, CEX gives £47 cash for the D50 just the body, I might trade it in tomorrow as there's new game I want, came out yesterday that's about that price.
Does this mean that you’ve decided to stop wasting your money on obsolete/broken camera stuff, and instead concentrate on learning how to get the best of your Sony? Sounds like a wise decision if this is so.

You can’t trade it in because you are returning it via eBay aren’t you?

if you are right about the £47 cash you could buy the D50 from Harrisons and nip round to CEX and make a £17 profit. Sounds unlikely though :(.

I thought you were returning the D50 from eBay as it was faulty?

That’s what I understand. He has to return both lens & body as they were sold as an item. If the seller accepted returns (which he doesn’t) he could return just the lens but the seller could declare any value to it or even £0 since they were sold together.

Sadly it’s not really clear that the OP has activated a return with eBay — his postings here conflict. :(

I did, last week, but the seller ain't responded yet (and probably won't :crying: )

Not my fault or problem.

Do you see?

It is your problem if you're left with a non functioning camera/lens.
If you've raised a dispute and the seller doesn't respond, ebay/PayPal will rule in your favour and you'll get a refund.

I’m not criticising, just trying to understand what you’ve done.

If you’ve raised a return (for goods not working) for the camera + lens with EBay it doesn’t depend on the seller.

Have you checked the status of your return on eBay as someone suggested earlier?

Well guess what? I've just got the camera working and managed to actually take a photo out of the Flat window! So I don't need to send it back after all.

YESSSSSS!!!!!!

Welcome to the club :D

I'll look forward to seeing your pictures and maybe pictures from comic com.

Really really happy for you.

So just so I know where we are now, this is the D50 and lens that's working now, yes? If so, great.
He’s got the original D50 and a lens (I’m not sure if he has specified what the lens is) he bought from Harrisons so I presume that is what he is using. He also has a Nikon fit Sigma lens that came with the camera.

Indeed but most of us sufferers know what we want rather than buying seemingly random kit without knowing what it is.

Weather permitting I'll be popping up to the Post Office tomorrow to send that one back.

I've just got some paper work to do for the new job in between.

Bet that was a good feeling!

Yeah, all I had to do was turn the switch to actually turn the camera on! That's probably what I've been doing wrong all the time! D'oh!

I just turned the switch, the top thingy came up, I pressed the shutter button, heard a click, and it took a photo! And just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I pointed it at the Kitchen and took another shot and that clicked as well.

I’m still none the wiser but I’ve searched back through his posts and in this one he says “I've been up to Harrison's this morning and bought a new lens for 50 quid.” :

Post in thread 'Need someone to help me use the Nikon D50 I got this week!'
https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...nikon-d50-i-got-this-week.734014/post-9092111

But no specs for the lens :(.

So, the problem was that you didn’t turn the camera on?
Well, no. Hadn’t the camera given an error message in a previous post (somewhere)?

This story gets better and better, I'm not sure John le Carré could have written a more convoluted version of 'Man Buys Camera' -- a play in seventeen parts. I'm still awaiting the ending wherein everything will be explained like they do in TV's Death in Paradise. Will the camera be returned, will eBay turn up trumps, will CEX fight to the death with Harrisons, is it even the same camera or a flawed doppleganger from the future? It's so exciting.

Great. If you have time over the weekend, stick the camera in automatic mode, and go out and take some photos. See if you can find a traditional post box or a b;ue front door. Think about the framing,
Depends on the weather, Storm Eunice is still brewing...

It's not just Richard, anyone can have... a little problem.

Years ago I stuck a for sale note on the board at work for a Fuji S602 I had and a guy from one of the technical departments was interested but it was too complicated for him. Maybe some of us take using digital cameras a bit for granted.

There's always benches. They're a thing.

If weather's still naff, try objects that are in the flat or corridors if you have them, they can make for intersting shots

Yeah it did, as per the tutorial sessions with @stickytape last week, but that was when it had a duff lens.
What exactly is the good lens that you bought from Harrisons? Tell us the make (Nikon) and the focal length(s).

It probably doesn’t apply in this case but there are now people who’ve only used phone cameras and may be good photographers (for some definition of the word) but they evidently have a hard time getting used to aperture etc.
