I need to do an assigment on a portrait photographer for college. I got to include 5 of there pictures, 300 words why I chose them etc.

In that case Jane Bown would be a good choice - she tended to use only a 50mm lens on a battered old Olympus 35mm SLR and used only natural light.

Under what definition of 'famous'? I haven't heard of nearly all the photographers mentioned above, and would have instantly suggested Philip Warner, who in turn I bet no one else has heard of :D

I chose several photographers off of here when I did my assignment.

Pete Carr and Alasdair Fowler (Bulb) were 2 of the ones I used, and Gary's street set from Edinburgh will definitely be fitting into my course next year (if he doesn't mind!)

I find I appreciate photo's a lot more when I know (of :p) the person who took them, and the sort of, lets be crude, sh!t they go through!

I`d say Either Lichfield or Snowdon. Having said that i`d also go with Karsh, I think his portrait of Churchil is second to non (mainly due to how he got such a stern look).

Harry Benson (Glasgow) Saw his exhibition a couple of weeks ago - really impressive.

I always hear the term 'David Bailey', and even get called it by my mum/dad/family members whilst they're taking the whizz.

After looking on his website, i'm slightly dissapointed. Yeah, don't get me wrong, he looks to be a fantastic photographer, but i've seen some miles better photos/styles with non-pro photographers.

You got to understand that he learned his trade using film and slides, and none of these trigger happy approached a lot of tog utilised these days.

Bryan Adams (The Groover from Vancouver) is a portrait photographer.

He takes them of celebs.. and even the Queen!!
