My brother won a comp!:woot:
I have cd's with hundreds of my brothers photo's on them from his trips around the world, he works for British Airways. He occasionally takes a great shot but most would be considered as snaps by professionals, and his pp leaves a lot to be desired on many of them too ( he'll kill me for saying that but I'm being honest )
Emirates Airways was running a comp for new photo's to grace the roundabout at Heathrow and my bro got 1st prize! infact the top 3 prizes went to amateurs and not professionals.
He won a 1st class holiday for 2 people to any where that Emirates flies.
I haven't got a copy of it yet but you can see it on their competition website here; http://www.keepdiscovering.com/uk/
In the Winners gallery.
Please have a look. :D

Edit:
I've just received an email from my brother giving me more info and his reactions.:)

“Yes, I was as shocked as everybody else to win. I'd just got up when I read the email and had to keep wiping my bleary eyes because I wasn't believing what I was reading. Even then I thought it was just announcing another winner. Two first class tickets to anywhere on the Emirates network, so I'm taking Laurence to New Zealand, which is as far as they go. Just got the flight confirmed yesterday for April. She got so excited over my winning. Had been telling me to enter competitions for years and I always said there were many much better than mine. And then I go and win my first one and she didn't shut up for ages.

I saw the competition advertised in our Heathrow and Gatwick newspaper and thought it was just a small local one for airport people. So I thought I might be in with a chance, not knowing it was more or less a worldwide thing. I entered 26 photos, and 19 of them were selected to be in the Emirates online gallery, 160 to 178, Click on any picture to enlarge it. The one of the tower in China doesn't display right. Their web site chops off all those in portrait mode. There's a similar picture to the winner. I uploaded it by mistake.

In the winners gallery you'll see the top 3. In the Heathrow Gallery you'll see the site where it's going to be erected - main entrance to terminals 1,2,3 where the big model Concorde used to be but I guess you never saw that. It's not a very impressive display but it's unfinished. I stopped off and had a look on my way back after Christmas and mine isn't on display yet. It's supposed to be the most prominent one when it's put up, maybe on a central higher display. Just guessing.

The winners were printed in the airport magazine which I left with Mother. It wasn't a very good print. And nothing that they wrote about me saying came from me. I was asked how I felt etc. and said "I'm not going to say anything slushy or sentimental if that's what you're hoping for". So they've made things up. Now I know how famous people feel on reading stuff about them in the Sun. Laurence also found this while searching for more stuff on it http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Emirates-Airline-Heathrow-competition-winners Again, this is the same made-up stuff not from me. Makes me gag.

The keepdiscovering website displays my picture on my monitor much as I intended it and I print it like this. The airport paper that Mother has doesn't though. No colour in it. Five people have had A3 size prints off me. A couple were tough men types at work who went all soft over it. Maybe it will appear here and there over time. Emirates have the rights to do as they please with it. But for up to £15,000 - the cost of the tickets to NZ - they can do what they want with it. £15.000!!

Wow :D Big congratulations to your brother Susane

Just had a look and it's a fantastic photograph. I'm not surprised it won, it ticks all the right boxes. I love it :)

what a cracking pic it is too!:thumbs:

Wow, great shot. A well deserved winner

Thank you Guys, I'm just so chuffed you wouldn't believe! :woot:
I need to get him to come to TP but he's such a shy guy I doubt that he will, I can but try.

Just had a look Susane,
great shot, and a deserving winner.:clap:

It's also been published in Skyport magazine, a mag for airline peeps. My bro said they printed a soppy story about him and what he said but lets say the Editor added a little poetic license, made the family laugh anyway.

If anyone gets to see it at Heathrow roundabout ( not sure if it's up yet though, will have to ask) get a picture for me please!

Now that is a cracking photo!
Well done to your bruv!

 great result for a great shot

I have to agree with you all, even though he's my brother.
I think it's streets ahead of the second and third placed shots.
I can't wait to get my hands on a high res copy to enlarge for my wall. :)

Tell him congratulations that is a fantastic shot

It has a lot of atmosphere about it, superb shot, I bet he's pleased with that?

A brilliant shot!

I was wondering too who he'll take on the trip with him!

Excellent stuff Susane ... ... you must be so proud ... :suspect: ... even if he is your brother ... :D

:p

I think he should give the tickets to me and my man, he travels the world anyway, all over the USA, China, Hong Kong etc, etc, etc!

Can only echo all of what's been said above, beautiful photograph and well deserved winner :clap:

Superb shot. Well done to your brother

Very atmospheric shot.

If I go anywhere near I'll take a detour to have a look.

Got a mail from my Bro, updated my 1st post.:D

And I still haven't told him what I said about his previous processing skills.;)

cripes I bet he's chuffed to pieces
apart from the trip to NZ, there might be some new kit in there I guess?!?!?

well done that man! :clap::clap::clap:

Fantastic update, Susane. I can see you are so proud of your brother... as I would be of mine.

My hubby goes to Heathrow every few days so I will tell him to keep an eye out for it.

Yep! He's spent a lot of money on his hobby of 30 odd years, its great that he's got something to show for it apart from his photo's and memories.
Thanks for looking Janice :) and everybody, I'm getting up the courage to tell him about this thread.:D
