Also, surely you can report posts if you dont like them ...
I think it's important to differentiate clearly between 'snide and hurtful' and brutally honest. The two are not the same.

I was 15 when I shot my first wedding- and they came out pretty well considering. I did have two assistants push/shove/bully them into line for the shots though (mum & aunty)
Manual metering, manual hammerhead flash, manual focussing, manual film wind, manual posting the film off for development, manual sticking in album for them with that white glue stuff
5 years later the bride (my cousin) manually tore the album to shreds when hubby ran off with another woman
How did I learn to do all that by 15? I read the manual !!!

I am quite literally laughing my arse off
I heart you GaryI am joining the avatar gang

One of my favourite quotes to date I think![]()
Wouldn't it be nice if everybody was nice to each other all the time?
I guess if I was a pro and working hard to support my family with ever increasing overheads and saw another "OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO DO A WEDDING!!!!!!" thread I may end up giving an impatient answer.
Particularly if I had spent years practicing and a great deal of money building up a collection of quality glass and the post was followed by
"I have a 350D and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG and a nifty fifty, what else do I need?"

I think you are all missing the point here. Here is a huge market for Chip togs that needs to be filled. I mean have you seen the quality of photography in the window of your local take away? We should all gather together and make a network or company. We could call it 'Crap and Proud' and we could have a uniform with a rotting month old chip on each shoulder. What do you think? Whos in?
I hate having to do this, but lately Ive been seeing more and more snide and hurtful comments from professionals, slating people trying to make it as pros.
I wont mention any names, or any threads, but we all have to start somewhere, just bear that in mind please. Its like being stuck behind a learner driver, that was YOU in the drivers seat once, be nice to us n00bs ok?Lets keep TP the friendliest forum on the net, got it?
Now leave me be, I am on a mega high today, and noones gonna bring me down![]()

As a professional for 25 years and yes I do know what I am talking about
What gets me is not the amateur who wants to progress but the amateur that thinks its all a piece of **** and then produces something very average which all the other wannabees coo over because they know no better.
Forums contain far too much praise for sub standard pictures and whats worse is when those pics are sold as pro work
This is what has crippled the industry.
Obviously I was a beginner once upon a time but I learnt my trade the proper way by assisting for many hard years and gradually taking on responsibility
What I didnt do is pop into Jessops buy myself some crap body with a kit lens and announce myself a pro.
This is what I object to and will continue to object to.
