I need to moan

Also, surely you can report posts if you dont like them ...

I think it's important to differentiate clearly between 'snide and hurtful' and brutally honest. The two are not the same.

I totally agree, I never said that from the start :)

Yes some people do need the reality check, the ones that jump feet first into a wedding thinking its going to be easy, well its not. Its sometimes people being rather condescending as well, *some* people doing their first wedding as an amateur may eventually want to become professional in years to come :) Its not all people with a "pro" camera claiming to be a pro :)

Did that make sense? My mind is currently elsewhere :p

I'm sure the camera manufacturers must take some responsibility for the rise in "pro" togs... ;)

i do think its funny people seem to jump in thinking they are pro lol, i would go no where saying i was, we joke about things looking almost professional here but i know thing i do would ever be, or in my eyes classed as pro. weddings is alot more complicated in my eyes than people think, i have been asked to do one in the past but said no on the grounds i wouldnt feel comfortable with responsibilty. i would work with my other halfs dad who does it pro all the time and take some pics, compare to his and work that way but i wouldnt want to take responsibility for everything, thats madness lol

I don't see why people want a "PRO" badge :) The higher the throne you sit upon, the further your fall will be (Hey I just made that up, cool or what?)

Keep it real and be honest about your abilities. Nothing wrong with someone who is OPEN about being a complete novice, AND doing a wedding.

Noobs and Novices rejoice!! Put your "crap" badge on and wear it with pride, lets march the march together - one day will reach the top, ARE YOU WITH ME????????????? PHWOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

What.....

Nobody?

Erm.....

Ok.

:coat:

I was 15 when I shot my first wedding :eek::eek: - and they came out pretty well considering. I did have two assistants push/shove/bully them into line for the shots though (mum & aunty)

Manual metering, manual hammerhead flash, manual focussing, manual film wind, manual posting the film off for development, manual sticking in album for them with that white glue stuff

5 years later the bride (my cousin) manually tore the album to shreds when hubby ran off with another woman

How did I learn to do all that by 15? I read the manual !!! :D

DD

One of my favourite quotes to date I think :D

I am quite literally laughing my arse off

I heart you Gary :D:D:D I am joining the avatar gang :D

Betty, how did you get that sign aswell <<< ???

Wouldn't it be nice if everybody was nice to each other all the time?

I guess if I was a pro and working hard to support my family with ever increasing overheads and saw another "OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO DO A WEDDING!!!!!!" thread I may end up giving an impatient answer.

Particularly if I had spent years practicing and a great deal of money building up a collection of quality glass and the post was followed by

"I have a 350D and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG and a nifty fifty, what else do I need?"

;)

I can understand that fully, and I think its fair play. There is though a market for cheap togs, and I think it's only fair that people have a go and get a chance to take things further.

If someone asked me to shoot a wedding next week, I would refuse payment, get 100% understanding that my photos might and probably would suck, then I would get stuck in :) I would continue that trend until quality justified charging!

Gary.

We rock :D

I am not charging the earth for this wedding I am doing, only because Ive had to put in a days holiday at work :)

Yeh, but without competition you wouldn't have growth, and those Pro's started somewhere as well....

I think you are all missing the point here. Here is a huge market for Chip togs that needs to be filled. I mean have you seen the quality of photography in the window of your local take away? We should all gather together and make a network or company. We could call it 'Crap and Proud' and we could have a uniform with a rotting month old chip on each shoulder. What do you think? Whos in?

After careful thought and consideration I have come to the conclusion that most of you are stark raving mad

I hate having to do this, but lately Ive been seeing more and more snide and hurtful comments from professionals, slating people trying to make it as pros.

I wont mention any names, or any threads, but we all have to start somewhere, just bear that in mind please. Its like being stuck behind a learner driver, that was YOU in the drivers seat once, be nice to us n00bs ok? :) Lets keep TP the friendliest forum on the net, got it? :)

Now leave me be, I am on a mega high today, and noones gonna bring me down ;) :woot:

As a professional for 25 years and yes I do know what I am talking about
What gets me is not the amateur who wants to progress but the amateur that thinks its all a piece of **** and then produces something very average which all the other wannabees coo over because they know no better.
Forums contain far too much praise for sub standard pictures and whats worse is when those pics are sold as pro work
This is what has crippled the industry.
Obviously I was a beginner once upon a time but I learnt my trade the proper way by assisting for many hard years and gradually taking on responsibility
What I didnt do is pop into Jessops buy myself some crap body with a kit lens and announce myself a pro.
This is what I object to and will continue to object to.

Well what to do, is reply honestly and keep it real! No one I feel would be happy knowing people are bigging up shots which are in fact deserving of a serious bashing!

Gary.

i think on that note maybe its time we all move on?

Imnot a pro as yet-but am working on it and personally i have never had anice comment made about me trying to make it in this world-generally pro togs are very rude and bolshy.

When often there is only a very small gap between pro and almost pro-or even good amatuer.
