Okay, im shooting an indoor gig in a couple of weeks, im looking at a number of flash devices that a friend has told me to look for, they are as follows..

SB900
SB800
SB600

Hes told me to get these are they can be triggered when they are off the camera?

Ive looked about at something a little cheaper and have seen SB400, SB28 and SB80dx..

Not sure what to get, what prices should i be paying, i want to pay around £100 ideally but obviously cheaper the better right now as i only own a D40x and i want a 55-200mm this month too so..

Also been told to look at the Yongnuo range.

Help needed please!

Yeah im looking at the YN-560III

Suggestions?

This is only good for manual, off camera flash. You will also need a set of rf 603 triggers.

If you want a cheap ttl one go for the one Ivan has recommended otherwise go for a used SB800 or Sb 700,900 new. Don't bother with the sb400.

I'd also recommend the 565ex yongnuo but I am not 100% it is i-ttl, it should be but the description is not perfectly clear, I'd suggest to get it anyway and if it's no good send it back and get the other?

Is i-ttl the automatic feature? Id probably need that, atleast to start with as i dont want to start messing about and miss parts of this gig.

In that case get a nikon one to get stared. I have a sb 800 and am very happy with it.

Yeah it is, that 565ex has it, I'm almost sure of it, it does say it in the description, but it don't mention your camera, but I can't see that making a difference as the model above (568) does mention your model of camera so don't see why it wouldn't work, but it could be sent back anyway and get the other, depends how much you are willing to spend I suppose.

The SB800 is expensive though, its worth what my cameras worth, i wouldnt know which to take more care of! Plus i wont use it all the time, im thinking the Yongnuo 565ex as it rivals the SB900

Let us know how you get on with which you choose, I have the 560 III myself, but am also interested in a 565ex.

Im just going to go for the 565ex i think, ive looked at reviews and seems that alot of people rate this highly and it supposedly rivals the sb900!

Going to get it next week after this stag do.

Why not getting YN 568EX II? It sounds the best overall one, not sure if it is the latest model right now from YN, but if it is, from what i read from the site, it is very competitor to those of Canon 580EXII and Nikon SB900.

The 565 rivals the nikon sb900 apparantly, the next model up is around 130, the 565 is around 70 delivered, is rather get something cheaper right now as i only have a d40x until i upgrade it.

What kind of indoor gig is it? is it a music one?

The reason I ask, is that, normally flash isn't allowed, unless its just a little pub gig.

Phil

Yeah its indoor, its a little club in Halifax, flash will be allowed, but if it wasnt what would i do? How do i use the flash in a way that doesnt harm the bands lol?

If flash is not allowed, then you cannot use it in a way that does not harm the bands.... You might have to use a high iso and a lens that can go down to f2.8 or lower.

The EX565 cannot rival the Nikon SB900 as it does not have high speed sync.

Also to my knowledge there is no yongnuo EX568 II for Nikon only Canon at the moment only the EX568 mk1.
