Yes
It's true I do

My photography skills have left me (well, those I had anyway). :(

I can't even manage to get a decent shot with the camera on auto. I'm struggling badly with inspiration and composition.

Pleeeeeease suggest a way back from the brink before I just sell the lot and take up knitting for England.

How about trying something for one of the themes, or something for the next comp.
Or try and take a photo in every room of the house as a bit of a challenge.

We have all been there at one time or another (i know i have). I love painting watercolour, have done for years. Every so often my paintings look crap, i can't explain why but they do they just do. I just lose my touch if you like.

I find the best thing is to take a break for a week or two, do something else but whatever you do never EVER give up.

It all comes back, you get the urge again and you wonder what all the fuss was about.

I had this problem, then started an A level evening course in the hope it would give me some inspiration, which it definitely has. Studying some of the masters of photography for my landscape project (Ansel Adams, Minor White, Paul Caponigro) has got me dying to get out there and take some shots.... my problem is finding the time to do it!

Stop trying to be perfect. Only way forward is to start seeing the good bits first..

I've been suffering with this for about a year now.

I think the main part of the issue is a lack of local friends to share the hobby/ideas with etc.

Come to the Liverpool Meet then :) Just follow Pete around, get lots of inspiration for shots then ;) (*warning* your shots never come out as good as his though!)

i can't make the liverpool meet due to other commitments :(

i'm hoping the focus expo at the nec will help.

Bizarre thread this mate, I am into air-shows/motor-sport/activity events and can't wait for the weekend to come around, Midweek I am looking in the local events calender and planning my weekend.:)

What is your subject DF...?? If you fancy a day out complete with p!$$ taking and tomfoolery get your backside over the pennines, We can guarantee you a great day out. Ask stuv..

I know THAT feeling, but thanks to the forums here, I am starting to get to know a few people now. Still, I often go for a wander on my own, feeling like a total lemon  isn't there anyone in your area on here?

There are probably a fair few members on here from Chester or Cheshire/merseyside. finding time to actually meet people is tough at the moment though as I end up working 6days most weeks.

Seems like there are quite a few experiencing this at the moment, having seen a few similar threads lately. Everyone has to find their own way through, but one is to put all your gear in a cupboard and forget it for a while. Do something different, or do nothing, but either way, don't take pics. One day, something will catch your eye and you will think.......wish i had my camera with me......and bingo! your're back in business. It may be 6 days, it may be 6 months, but it WILL come back! (Honest)!!

:agree: ... definitely with PS and others of like mind ... ;)

Whatever you do DF ... do NOT ... repeat NOT flog your gear ... you WILL regret it ...

Be patient and keep trying your skills ... they will return ...

:p

Give yourself a project. Something we could all do is document the changing scene around us locally. The times I've threatened to do this and still haven't, but once the old buildings are gone that's it, and pics of 'the way it used to be' are always in demand.

Pubs are disappearing by the day now and you could make a project of photographing those or unusual pub signs. Try having a pint in each pub then if the camera urge doesn't return you wont care anyway. :D

Sounds like a plan
I'd be up for meeting up sometime if you want.
I live really close to Chester (Port Sunlight, Wirral) & at the moment I get to chose my working days/schedule so I have quite a bit of freedom.
Definately don't give up though, find a new subject matter that interests you & see where it goes from there. I try to learn new stuff on Photoshop if I am not inspired & this always seems to make me want to photograph again.

Take a sickie and get to Chester Zoo on Weds DF ;)

We'll get you taking some decent piccies again.

Don't give up, We need you! It's not easy sometimes, having the confidence and motivation to get up and go out with your camera but as many have said on this thread, try to give yourself a theme. I usually do my photography alone but once I get an idea for pictures in my head, I forget I'm alone and get creating. I find it's a good idea to try and take photos in 'panels', say of five shots on a related theme. Are there any phogotraphy clubs your way? They are great. I go along to Brancaster Club when I can and they are great motivators. Good luck.

Its winter thats all when the sun comes out or we get snow clinging to trees your insperation will come back i dont think knitting will do it for you though. try some thing a bit more dareing maybe lace making its more chalenging and you might get some good shots from it.

Thanks for the words of support guys, you people really do make this place a fun place to be.

I emailed a photo course place last night to try and get some hands on stuff from the begining to try and relearn everything, as the place is in reading.....it'll be a case of take it all in and learn from it, or waste £300 and a few days of my life.

When I get the dates back, i'll make a choice

Well if you're in Reading and fancy meeting up for a beer just let me know sir

I'll be sure to take you up on that.
The courses seem to be run over 2 days so a visit to an overnight watering hole is in order.

:)

Marianne can help you get started on knitting. Hope you're left handed though.
