I need help with my Canon EOS 10D

I am a virtual beginner to Digital Photography and I own a Canon Eos 10D (which in the next couple of months is to be upgraded to a 5D) with a 24-85 EF Lens. And I have what seems to me to be a serious problem, and that is almost every photograph I take seems to be out of focus irrespective of what shutter speed/aperture that I use (this is exagerated when the Photograph i magnified in Camera). I really enjoy Landscape Photography but I as yet have no Tripod. I would gretly appreciate any help with this matter.

you need to post a picture so we can look at the settings and see if we can work out whats wrong..
 
Are you using the centre focus point?
 
We really need pictures to be able to tell. Have you turned off autofocus?
