I Need advise as to which camera to purchase please.

I am looking at purchasing either the Nikon 1 J1 or the Panasonic Lumix G3. Which camera is the best out of the two or can you recommend any others?
 
Welcome, it would help if you said what sort of things you were going to take photos of and what your expectations are :)
 
I am a bit of a beginner so it would be leisurely use. I wanted to upgrade from a compact camera. Taking photo's on holiday and the occasions when i go to party and weddings. general usage. Thank you for helping.
 
Either will do the job, best thing is to go along and try one in a shop - iirc there are cashback/discount deals around for the Nikon - or so the annoying advert at the side of my Facebook page keeps telling me :lol:
 
Is the Nikon 1 fairly new as there are not many reviews on it at the moment?

I googled "Nikon 1 review" and came up with seven hundred thousand results. "Nikon J1 review" brings up quarter of a million hits, how many more do you want? :D
 
Haha really! sorry i must not have looked properly. I found a lot of sites selling it. I will have another look. Sorry.

One of the Olympus PEN models perhaps,or something from the Sony NEX range. Ultimately they'll all do the job, try them all and buy the one that feels "right" when you hold it, otherwise no matter how many megapixels it has or how fast it shoots you won't use it.

Kirk Tuck reviewed the Nikon 1 very favourably, but he's posted recently that he got fed up waiting for decent fast prime lenses and has sold it on. The m4/3 CSC cameras are looking a better option at the moment and certainly have the best available lens compatibility options.
 
Would I be right in sayin the Panasonic G3 is a better option to the Olympus E-PL3 as there is no internal flash?
 
Sony nex 5n picture quality is awesome , as good if not better than many DSLR's
