Right, it's time I put together a website that is workable. I want my own domain name (www.jofisher.com or something like that), and I want to site to work nicely with easy use for potential purchasers.

It's not just for my photography. I am also wanting to restart my card making, although my photography is used with this, so I guess it would work well together.

I like how this site works http://www.katymelling.com/ and was wondering if I could create something like that myself. Another option I like are the slide show sites I see a lot of folks round these parts have (weddinghacks site springs to mind).

My problem is that I don't have a credit or debit card. So when it comes to buying a domain what options do I have there? Also how would I go about finding a host and paying them? I hope this all makes sense, because to be honest when I created the site in my signature, I bluffed my way through it, and had so many errors along the way I made do with the basic look in the end. But I don't like it anymore, plus I haven't a clue how to log into it anymore either :$ ... I just want to ditch that one and start fresh.

So I could really do with a step by step guide. Starting with nothing and finishing up with a manageable site that sells my work!

Easy eh? :$

You'll struggle buying a domain online without a credit or debit card. Maybe borrow a friends and pay them back in cash?

The website you posted, although very nice and smooth, seems to be built entirely using Flash which isn't the easiest tool in which to build a website with. Neither is it the best as they don't appear as high up the list in search engines as a website that uses both flash and HTML.

Gallery wise, a lot of people use this as it seems quite popular at the moment. Easiest way to learn HTML is to search through Google for websites such as HTML Goodies etc which will tell you the basics although its still not easy to do. Sometimes its better to pay someone to do it for you!

Hope something in that mass of information helps you out :)

EDIT: A lot of togs on here seem to recommend http://www.clikpic.com/ and http://www.photium.com/ but I've just seen this which may help?

Most domain names are bought with credit/debit cards.

there are some hosting companies that will accept paypal and they include a free domain with your hosting.

can you do paypal?

Chris you're a star and if I get stuck I know where to come :) You and a few others have really helped me there recently and I deeply appreciate it.

I guess I should really get searching. I wish I could afford to pay someone to do it all for me

Psi ~ I can do paypal, but only if I ebay an item or something to get the funds in there in the first place.

Seems pretty simple to me: get a FREE website with FREE hosting.

Try weebly.com.

I'm not certain but I don't think that it will work terribly well with gallery and or cart software.

Thanks for that, but it's not the kind of thing I'm after. I find the free ones have limitations too  I'm after one that has a flashplayer to do a slideshow with maybe some music playing.

I use 123-reg.co.uk for all (I have quite a few) my domains and they now use paypal.. with VAT comes to about 6 quid per 2 years for domain and email forwarding.
