Yes
I don't want an arty farty Iphone, too expensive and I won't use a lot of the features.

I've narrowed it down to either the N95, or the Sony Ericsson C902.

I like the size of the Sony, but the N95 has GPS, which I find quite useful when negotiating a large town on foot. I currently have an O2 XDA thingy, which is now almost 2 years old, so it's time for a change.

Email is useful, and both of the above phones have a 5MP camera, so it will come in handy as a compact.

Anybody have any comments on either of these units ?

Erm sorry to say it but the iPhone fits the bill on everything other than the camera. You may think it's "arty farty" but it's far from that.

The GPS and Google mapping is the best out there. And the email implementation (although not as good as a real PC) is in an entirely different league to anything else on the market.

N95 is quite old hat now and the symbian based OS really isn't exactly user friendly. As for the C902 it does seem to be all about the camera but then you allude to wanting to do for than just that!

Thanks Nathan,

The size of the N95 puts me off a little, and knowing that the N96 is due soon is also in the back of my mind.

Maybe I should just run with the Iphone, but I don't need it for music as I already have an 80Gb Ipod, and although the interface seems wonderful, I'm not sure if it's not just a bit quirky.

I'll have to have a play with one in a shop, maybe it will enlighten me

Steve,

I was in exactly the same frame of mind until I did just that.

I spent about an half an hour playing with one in the O2 store and then wrestled one off of a friend for a couple of hours.

I was sold on it just because of the interface. Add in the functionality and it's just perfect for me. There are some deficiencies that might be a deal breaker though so check everything that you want to do is there (MMS being the biggest for most).

Also, while the monthy fees seem high, if you factor in the unlimited data and the amount of free calls/messages, it soon makes sense!

I have the N95 and it is not too bad, mainly use it just as a phone.
Camera is ok but nothing special, the GPS works ok
Battery life is shocking though.

All in all its OK but in honesty I will probably change it to the i-phone myself at some point

Dunno if that helps :shrug::lol:

Another  for the iphone here.

I've always seen them as (as you put it) "arty-farty" and always steared clear of them. But after borrowing one for a day and having a good play, i was am iPhone convert, and now we have three in the family (My White 3G 16gb, and 2 8GB 2g phones for the wife and eldest daughter).

They are more of a mobile device with a phone bolt on than a mobile phone with added functionality. The GPS mapping is good and can be a godsend if you are lost (esp with the satellite imaging rather than street map).

Try one on contract, you get 14 days to return it if dont you like it, but give it a few days for you to get used to it.

The N95, and the SE C902 aren't arty farty phones?

No, the N95 is a "business phone", I'm not sure how I'd position the 902, but having reviewed the specs again, I'm begining to think that it's a camera with an inbuilt phone....

I recently changed to an N95 8GB and just love the thing - that's if you can really love a phone.

Iphone 16gb here

had the original and loved it, got the 2nd and love it

it just works.......

Iv got the N95 8gig, its a good phone, but Blackburry are launching thier new phone and it looks great!! i was at the launch party last week and the CEO of blackburry allowed me to fondle it!! lol..

 i dont get it...

I just bought me a Nokia 6200 since I lost my old phone In the countryside last week.

Long as It has text and can make a phone call thats all I need and games when I'm bored and lonely on boring train trips.

apple have a battery replacement scheme in place.

Dunno about dropping this one.....I've not found a hard case I like yet, my 2G iPhone lived in an armoured case and it was very well protected from knocks.

Sony all the way - there phones are top in my experience and you can get google maps on them if u really want maps.

I like Sony Ericsson, I've had 5 or 6 of them, but the 902 doesn't have a GPS, which I do find really handy. I think it's going to be the Iphone...

my new phone that arrives tomorrow :) has touchflow like the iphone too ;)

OK isnt an iphone and runs mobile windows, but gets very good reviews :)

Just got a N95 8GB and liking massively, i couldnt justify the Iphone price tag, and not a huge fan of touch screen phones/screens.

Another to consider is the Nokia N82, not a bad phone by all accounts, and not a slidie phone (hate sliders after having mine slide open in pocket, unlock keypad and ring my boss!)... It also has GPS and various other goodies and available in black.

If you can hang on a while the new ericsson c905 will have GPS and lots of other possibly useful functions. Not that anyone will pay them any attention with an 8Mp camera in there........which will be more than a match for an EOS 1d II, obviously.
