Our Russel Hobbs toaster has finally started to toast unevenly after 10 years.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced 2 slice toaster that will evenly toast 1 or 2 slices of thickish bread - homemade so the slices vary a bit :D
We do not toast crumpets etc.
Thanks
Kev

about 10-15 quid for a basic one in tesco - if you only want basic theres no need to pay more

i've never found one that toasts evenly. I just pop them out half way and flip them

My Tesco own brand is the best I've ever had, it's a year or two old now so new models will be different but I see no point paying over the odds for brand names when from experience they can be awful.

Don't ask Scott (pepi1967)....his toast is inedible

We've got A Russell Hobbs and it makes loooovely toast.

Best toasters are Dualit, not cheap though;although they can be repaired unlike most electrical items these days.

i have a russell hobbs at home, that toast ok one side, half to a quarter on the other side depending on how it feels

my £9 tesco special I have in the caravan look ok and toast perfect,

can't understand why someone would pay £100 for a Dualit toaster:shrug:

Damned expensive I would say, but, they are good and when our kettle lid broke they sent a replacement free of charge and it was years out of warranty. The toaster has been very good too.

Matt

thing is do they last 7 times as long as a tesco 15 quid effort ? (before needing repair- as although they can be repaired the cost of doing so is also more than a cheap toaster) - if the cheap toaster lasts 2 years (as mine has) that would imply that the dualit needs to last at least 14 years without repair to be better value for money

Just had a quick look on Which? for you (I'm a subscriber)

The best toaster in the £20 bracket is the Breville TT58. It browns evenly, the toast pops up smoothly, it's well built and is easy to clean

I have the cheaper of the range, a 2 slice metal and plastic combo Dualit which is 6 years old and still going strong. Pretty to look at too.

Magimix worth a look, on par with Dualit.

Had our Magimix toaster & kettle for 10+ years, working as well now as the day we bought them Look flash too ;)

IIRC the lower end dualit range cannot be repaired by ordering in spare parts. Only the more expensive models can.

My Dualit is 18 years old...bought it in 1994 when I bought my first flat as a single lad. I am now married with two kids and it's still going strong. Best appliance I have ever bought...

Hopefully that's not tempting fate!

I have a Breville one, it's terrible, avoid like the plague. Always uneven, struggles with regular sized slices no chance with a crust (you have to put slices in sideways or you get only half a slice toasted, and even then there's a soft strip) , timer is incredibly fussy, suspect it has LOG rather than LIN potentiometer.

I have a 6 quid jobbie that I got from Morrisons, does the job well and reasonably quick too.

And if that blows up, there's always the grill.

Another vote for Breville. My VTT214 does toast lovely and evenly. I got it reduced at Currys.
