I must have done something right! (My first Flickr Explore!)

Took this as 'something different' last night, I've mainly been playing it safe since I started photography however I had a bit of a mad half hour!

Nice feeling to know people are noticing it and feels really encouraging! :clap:

I've had a couple in explore, and they were IMO some of my weakest shots. So i don't pay much attention to it.
 
Last week I saw an out of focus snapshot of a bus on explore. It seems to be based on "interestingness" whatever that is.


Not trying to take anything away from you.... it's a lovely image... just don't think being explored means anything. You can't predict what makes an image explored, nor is it a measure of how good the shot is.

As far as I can gather it's based on ratings/likes - so it could be down to either the quality of the shot or an interesting subject. I have seen some hideous ones on there.

Not this one though, it's great.

It's also down to activity trends. If you usually get 2 views and no favs on any photos, then suddenly get 20 views and 2 favourites, that can be enough to put it into explore.
The less groups you use, and not using the post 1, comment 5 etc groups helps also.

I've had 13 explored this year, but not had one in a couple of months now, even though IMHO more recent shots have been some of my best. I don't know how they choose them exactly, but either way, seeing that happen is a definite ego boost.
 
Thanks a lot for the nice comments, it was like my birthday had come early haha. It made a nice change anyway, if nothing else!

13 this year is very impressive Jake! Attention hogger! Hmph! :D
 
Congrats on explore, it's a great shot.
How explore works no-one knows, the theory about adding to a map and putting tags seems to be meaningless as from the few I've had on explore the one with most views has neither, I can only assume that a lot of views in a short time helps hence the bus spotters pictures getting regular appearances on explore.

Have noticed a couple of strange badly-taken extremely old car photos on there aswell!

Oh well, back to the drawing board it is then! :D
 
It is quite hard to work out, I've had shots get over 1000 views in a day and not been explored, yet others get a few hundred and suddenly get explored.

12 so far this year for me, including a couple of 2nd places, the top spot is elusive.

Whilst it doesn't mean much it is very helpful for getting your name out there and your work seen.
