Yes
In my case it's the 'lens aperture ring'.....what's yours ?

I hate setting the aperture via the camera, seems all wrong some how.

Modern AF lenses don't allow for stop down metering, bring on the legacy lenses.

I miss a decent ground glass focusing screen that you can actually use to manually focus unlike the useless crap in modern DSLRs.

Lenses with markings and end stops.

I've gone mirrorless and whist there's no denying that the lenses are excellent I personally find fly by wire lenses utterly charmless.

The wonderful sound of a motordrive and shutter on full 'chat' :)

(I don't miss diving into my bag for another roll of film 8 seconds later :( )

FM2 with MD12.... best sound ever.

I still have mine !

Wish I still did. I had a brand new FM2n and MD12 that I had as a spare... quite literally never been out of the box. Sold it, along with lots of other stuff I wish I still had when I moved down to London.

Oh dear... that's some serious stuff!

I do still have an F3HP with an MD4 though -----

Most of my cameras/lenses have aperture rings and ground glass viewing screens and most of them don't use batteries. No need to miss these things if you don't want to.

Steve.

I know... my Plaubel 5x4, my Linhoff 5x4, and my Mamyia RB6x7 all have decent ground glass screens. I just wish DSLRs did too.

Lenses with depth of field markings on them. And accurate infinity.

I miss nearly ripping my arm off using a starting handle on a car..

Move on people :)

Just a little harmless reminiscence, I would love a vintage car with a starting handle ;)

The only DSLR I have is a D3200. The screen on that isn't too bad and I regularly use pre AI Nikkors on it. I would hope the screens on higher end models would be better.

They're bigger on full frame DSLRs, and brighter, but you still don't get that "snap" into focus you get with a ground glass screen.

Commentary on photographs regarding the scene, the emotion captured and exhibited. Opposed to all this current day crap like "nice and sharp", yup but it's still a person at a bus stop snapped from a long distance or yet another shot of a bird in a tree.

I miss using my rangefinder and its manual lenses whenever I pick up my DSLR!

I missed having a manual film camera, i dont anymore.:p

I miss having to wait a week to see what my photos look like

NOT :D

Dave

Should have processed them yourself then you lightweight :)

Besides... I know Barnsley is a bit backward, but I'm sure there are 1 hour labs even there :)

Well there are plenty of advances that we are happy to keep. But sometimes we lose good things through 'progress'. The idea behind this thread.

My analog camera batteries were tiny and would last years.

My batteries in my old film camera are the original, must be about fifteen years old. Used the camera the other week..

I miss the smell of burning magnesium powder and potassium chlorate. Oh, and the hairs on my left arm. And two of my fingers. :wideyed:

I miss thinking about printing my digital photos on an inkjet, but never actually doing it.

.....and chimping, oh God I miss chimping...yes

well....no

I mean I know I don't do it, therefore I know it has been omitted, so whilst I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than look like a max strength div, I notice its not there = missed

It doesn't seem so bad these days comparing it with say, phone-zombies, who seem to be intent on either getting run over or punched in the chops.

phone-zombies are the new chimpers :)

Don't miss anything from film days what we have now is all good and can only get better
When I bought my first DSLR a 350D it was brilliant being able to see straight away what I was doing wrong !!

Not even the quality?

I know what you mean but my own photos from the film era were never that good to be honest
I had a good camera a Canon A1 but never really got into it
I just wasn't learning from my mistakes
When I got the 350D I was able to make the connection as it were from changing things like aperture and settings and seeing straight away how they affected the final result
It was a revalation to me and I really got into photography after that

Fair enough.

What I can never understand is why no one makes a camera like a film SLR but just replace the film with a sensor.
Incorporating no more controls, features and dials than a SLR had.

Say.... an F3 with a sensor instead of film.

I know......move on you old wrinkly.

I miss the sound of the film advancing after firing off a shot. Actually... I don't. I think it would be a great hindrance to the type of photography I do nowadays, but I did buy a couple of old auto-winders for my film canons a while ago, and they do make a fantastic, satisfying noise.

Didn't Nikon try this with the DF?

Nor me - and 'quality' Pookeyhead? Having only used 35mm I really don't know what quality you can mean unless you precede it with the word 'poor' by comparison to what we get now

I have been in a lab twice to process film (well to be shown how I mean), it was the most BORING thing ever in my photo career by a VERY long way
