ATARI for computing
AMIGA for games, foot warmer or door stop

When I get some spare time in life I am going to buy an ATARI Ste 2mb from ebay and go back to my roots .. Although my first was an ATARI half meg.. no HD just half meg of memory and a floppy disk.. First went on the web with this and made my first website about 20 yrs ago. When everything was in black and white ..

If you had anything other than ATARI then start your own thread :)

Your just showing your age now! :D

Loved my Atari's. Had the ST, then the ST-E then moved to the Falcon. Also the 2600 for gaming. Retro but amaing

I nearly went for the falcon but couldn't afford at the time..TOS Crew converted one of my games for the falcon though .. heartland :)

Atari ST owner here, I spit on the grave of the Amiga :mooning:

My Parent bought me an Atari ST when i was at school. they also bought me some 'educational' games...

I played Afterburner instead :D (y)

Had the STE as well. Calamus was my favourite DTP on it.

Ahhh happy memories of Llamatron, Midwinter, Lemmings... I also have an Atari Jaguar lurking somewhere...

Oh nice one. I used to love TOS.

We had an Amiga 500... I was the house 'Snake' champion.

Did anyone ever purchase ST+ magazine.. little a5 publication.. lasted a yr maybe..

Don't remember that one but used to buy the ST User mag :)

Spent many a long hour playing elite and crashing into the spacestation until I had enough money to buy the docking computer :)

If you fancy a trip down memory lane, get yourself over to the Media Museum in Bradford. They have quite a few old gaming machines there too. Worth a visit.

My dad got the commodore 64, then the Amiga 500, then the Amiga 1200. He used to buy the MicroPros sims like Gunship 2000, M1 Tank Platoon, and the legendary Silent Service II.

But he also had one of the best gamers ever... Frontier: Elite 2. And I think he still has them all.

Amiga Commodore 64 owner here and proud to be so :D

Atari. Yuck! With its 3-channel sound chip borrowed from the Amstrad CPC range (I was posh, got the colour monitor instead of the icky green-monitor), sound was awful (compared to the miggy) - yet the funny thing was all the best MIDI software was made for the ST.

I loved my Amiga 500PLUS, then went onto the CD32 which was pants and jumped back onto an A1200 and modded it to the hilt.

Anyone else counting how many amiga amstrad users in this thread trying to convince themselves they made the right choice... oh dear :)

I think anyone who ever owned an Atari has posted in this thread. I never new anyone, everyone had amigas, Nintendo's or mega drives

I wanted an atari or an amiga - got bought an Acorn electron because it was edcational instead (it was so educational i spent most of my time with it playing Sea Harrier and Dog Fight) , we then upgraded to an amstrad 128 , then to a mac with a mighty 4mb of ram and 80mb of hard drive (but you could use up to 12mb of the hard drive as virtual ram Ftw)

I had a mega drive two as well (still have somewhere)

I do regret selling my STe. I'd upgraded it to 1MB, had a second disc drive and a lovely Philips CM8833 Mk2 monitor. It sold for a shockingly low figure when I moved to a PC :(

I once spent 3 days solid playing Dungeon Master on my Atari. It was a wonderful 3 days :geek:

then you discovered girls and it was all downhill from there ?

Atari, to posh for me. ZX Spectrum 48K, never even managed to upgrade tot he 128! but at least I could play 1942 and Gauntlet :) and wrecked many a joystick with daily thompson's decathlon

still have my old Atari 2600 complete with pacman, defender and donkey kong, which was mario's first appearance :). just looked and we also have asteroids and battle zone

Amiga 600 owner here, sorry had to post and give my fellow Amiga owners some moral support!!

If you are a gamer getting on a bit, I highly recommend the midlife gamer podcast (iTunes and somewhere else)

They often have a soundtrack of our gaming lives which is frequently an 8bit era piece. One of them was an ST boy, the other Amiga. A great podcast. I started about episode 160 and have gone back to the beginning to hear what I've missed.

I went from Commodore 64 to an IBM PS/1 286. 20Mb Hdd and I remember playing test Drive 3 loads

I've still got my st . I used it a lot for my music , a cheap and easy way into music production with the built in midi ports . I've even considered getting it out and using it again . The only downside is they're notorious for the mouse ports solder breaking overtime .
