how do you view the meta data when editing in photos ?
on my 12 inch macbook you just click on the trackpad
but don't know how its done on my new I Mac

There shouldn't be a difference - either click on the photo with the mouse or right-click & select 'get info'?

you have to right click and get info for the first photo then just click on any photo after as the info stays on

its a wireless mouse that came with the I Mac nothing happens when you right click !!!!
on the 12 inch MacBook when you right click the box opens and at the top it says get info
then all the meta data is shown and you can drag the box up out the road
but not on the I Mac !!!!!!!

You need to go into system preferences and set you mouse up to do what you want it to do or download the manufacturers software.

Yes i had a new mouse with no right click then realised had to set it up in the settings.

I've set right click up on my magic mouse but I think I'm right in saying that right click functionality is still there as standard if you hold control as you click.

Yes but it is much easier to set it up in system preferences.
