I love this effect - how is it done?

I love the way these are done, in terms of colour and general feel of the image. Does anyone know how to achieve this in post production?

I know that the in camera choices (exposure & depth of field) play a role, but I've been told that the original didn't look anything like the final outcome, so a lot of it is obviously done in photoshop.

A friend thinks it's a matter of over exposing, but I think her screen is too bright as she can't make out any skin details in the forehead area, but I can on mine, which has been calibrated, and I personally don't think it's about that anyway...

I love how the skin is clear without being too crisp (ie showing blemishes) or blown out (I can see faint lines around eyes, and freckles on her skin). I love how the eyes stand out in the image.

I love the slight vintage feel to the colours without being OTT about it. The B&W for instance is not monochrome, but it's not sepia either.

For the record, I obviously did not take this image, however someone I know was there during the photo shoot.

Any help will be hugely appreciated, I'm a wedding photographer and think my brides will love to have their photos look like this, it's very flattering, and quite dreamy without being cheesy.... Cheers :D

curves, masks, levels, masks, saturation, masks, contrast, masks etc...........

The person editing probably has an action or preset for this.

I do work with curves, saturation, contrast, levels etc... Just don't know how to tweek it to make it look like this! I've tried but not succeeded...

Don't know much about masks though.

Cheers!

First image looks like either saturation has been knocked down, then eyes and mouth have been brought back up (fairly standard stuff for portraits) or... Maybe some red has been taken out and then again eyes and lips boosted. Or... In PS copy the layer, desaturate the top copy, fiddle with curves to blow out the middle tones a touch and then set transparency to about 10-20% and then do the eyes and lips... Am I repeating myself?!

Second image... I think you could do a lot with levels before giving it a sepia type tweak

Then again, if you have Lightroom this could all be done very easily - there's prob even presets available for the main body of work...

Hope that helps

Lightroom is no different than Ps Cs2/3/4 all this can be done in PS............it's the same engine...........Ps can do more.
