Yes
I suppose its the same with anything really, but i was just thinking about how within about 2 minutes of meeting someone else with a camera, you can end up engrossed in a half hour 'camera chat', and before you know it you're comparing equipment, techniques, styles etc. All often without even knowing each others names!

I guess its one of the things i love about the hobby!

I agree! It's like having a baby with you and speaking to complete strangers about baby stuff. A great ice breaker

Just a shame that there not more big boobed blue eyed blondes that carry a camera around lololol

spike

This has happened to me once so far with the camera as I don't do a huge amount of photography, someone started talking to me but we never got each others names. By a stroke of luck I found him on Flickr and we've stayed in touch since.
Used to have this kind of thing happen to me a lot when I had my classic road going mini though.

I'll second that!

Last time this happened to me it cost me £30! Was talking to someone, chat went on for thirty minutes and it turned out he was the chairman of the local camera club so I joined. Unfortunately the club wasn't for me amd I only managed one and a half sessions...

And luckily the baby thing hasn't happened as I don't have any - sure that I wouldn't have the camera gear I have if I did :)

I went into WH Smiths to look at photo mags a while ago and there was an old boy in there doing the same, we got talking about how amateur photographer has changed over the years. Half hour later we went our separate ways neither of us bought anything.

Not cameras, but I regularly end up talking to people about my classic VW Camper.

Happens a fair bit as I tend to use older cameras especially when using the medium format gear :D

Its the same with many things people are passionate about - fishing is notorious for it :)

All the females I know are after one thing; my landscape technic.

i do this in work, my supervisor is into film photography and i have spent a large amount of time chatting about photography when im supposed to be working :)

hahhahha - boys do make me laugh :D:

lol, can't say I really get this either... I'd rather be taking pictures than feigning interest in the deal that some randomer got on a 85mm lens...

when working alongside other photographers, a common topic is moaning about cruddy light...

It's weird, the things we have with us are normally what starts the conversations off (dogs, cameras, classic cars etc) but without those items we'd miss out on so many interesting conversations and just walk on by.

You need to start a Flickr group

Not cameras, but had an interesting conversation with a man up a tree today. I had been taking photos next to his tree for about ten minutes until I realised he was there.
