Right,

for the first time today I had a real play with my SB600. OMG! This little flash is amazing. I had a real debate over buying it as I had never really made much use of flash before - now I'd never leave the house without it!

I used it of camera for most of the day and didn't have one misfire. It worked like a charm and the results are pretty good (Well, compared to my usual rubbish!).

So, anyhow - I appreciate this is a potentially pointless thread but hopefully it will convince another flashphobe to bite the bullet and get one!

I am now officially a OCF fan!:bonk:

I just caved in and purchased an sb-400 today, should be here this week, hope its as good as people say having a dedicated flash gun.

Out of interest are you using the off camera extension cords for this or is it wireless? I was looking on ebay for one if it was reasonably priced, are the 3rd party ones reliable/good quality?

I have one and I'm sorry to say it doesn't get much use. I should really make the effort and get out with it more.

I have an SB600 and an SB800 and bizarrely the thing I missed most from the 600 was the diffuser. Flash in the pan sells them for a few pounds and they make a great difference. Its a great flash just make sure you use decent rechargeable batteries like eneloops where you will get hundreds of shots from a set.

ive now 2 sb600s i am determined to learn how to use flash better

i suggest you buy digital slr this mounth it explains flash so even i can understand it

sb600 doesn't come with a stofen, but a) they're *moderately* useful, but not as useful as bouncing the flash, b) they're about £3 off ebay or from FITP.

I got mine last week, will be testing it out this Friday properly in the nightclub!

Looking forward to it!

Waiting until i get my d300s and i shall be getting a SB900 with it, not that I have a clue how to use it :D

But, it'll be something else to learn :)

I was looking at either a new SB600 or a second hand SB800 and some poverty wizards so I can use them off camera.

Have you looked into any of the poverty wizards yet?

sb 600 is a good choice for a starter flash.
also it is a great slave option.

I have two of the 600s and love them.

They are more than adequate for me.

Have no problems with them and use them wirelessly.

I bought a 400 and was impressed immedaitely compared to popup however when I found wireless on CLS it changed things altogether.

Thats a lot cheaper than I have been seeing, thanks for the heads up!

The sb-600 is an awesome flash every Nikon shooter should have one, absolutely loved mine used over 500 times off camera and not once did it misfire.

Sadly moving to Canon for a few reasons and will be parting with my Nikon kit however Nikon d70 and sb-600 is a match made in heaven, sync speeds upto 1/500secs and no need for triggers:love:

Will be interesting to see how the Canon 430exII cops against this beast.

i too have the sb600, had it a few years and used it remotely off my D70. its a great flash, diffuser is good too. i wouldnt part with it but in all fairness i hardly use it as im mostly natural light. ken rockwell does a good review on it together with instructions on how to set it up from the camera remotely. its heavy on batteries ***'!

what's a good new and used prices for these

targetting this as my top wish list item

also why using it off camera?

Warehouse Express have them for £219 but I got mine from One Stop Digital (import from Hong Kong) for £170ish I think.

I'd learn how to bounce the flash from the hotshoe before I think about off camera. You can get directional and defused light that way.

£220, seen them new on ebay for circa £160 with batteries

so used i hope to be less

What with the popularity of 'strobism' (hate that word) ANY speedlight seems to sell for a premium. I've seen used SB600s go for more than they are going new for on fleabay - £165 went for the other week. Think Kerso is selling for £150 but there are cheaper new if you hunt around...
