You're in the right place, just remember, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Welcome

Only been here 5 minutes myself and cant believe the help ive had and knowledge ive picked up. Was worried about snobbery like on some forums but thats not the case here.

Ask what you want and somebody will help!

hi ...............and................

been kicking around eBay for a few days looking for a D90 and..

there's a Business Seller called "buyista" who has a number of Nikon D40 body for bidding - they would be a good start - as i have !

then pick up a Nikon AF-S DX lens
"CameraWorld" is doing a 18-55 AF-S DX VR [vibration reduction] for £99+pp
or hunt for a secondhand one...

good luck

Thanks Everyone for the warm welcome,

Yardbent, I am looking at the Nikon D40 as seems to have a lot of good reviews as a starter dslr...also the D60, but challenges the old budget a little too much.

I'll let you know what I get....

prefer the D40 - when you learn more and maybe decide to upgrade - the D40 will be easy to sell to another starter - probably for what you paid for it

One in classified for £215

good hunting !

hi and welcome
not a dslr user so cant help there
but hope you get one which suits

good to see you got a good D40 so soon.....

hold off on getting a zoom till you know what you actually NEED

I got a 55-200mm *VR* from here - mint and a fair price
BUT... a bit "short" for birds or motorsport where a 300mm might be better
Tamron do a reasonable 70-300 for about £170 if you cannot afford the Nikon 70-300 at about £300 secondhand

get used to what you have first - enjoy....:D
