It's insured with photoguard anyone made a claim with them, what ought I do first

dead as dead, dropped it on the rear element on a rock then it fell in sea water :O

Hope it gets sorted mate.
Dean:)

If the insurance turns out to be dud - check your buildings and contents insurance as you may have accidental damage for items while 'outside'.

Will be interesting to see the outcome with this as i'm insured with PhotoGuard but have never had to make a claim.

Just got my 70-200L in the post this morning

Took a while but they're pretty busy and did alright by me in the end, I'll defo be sticking with photoguard in the forseeable future

One bit of advice for people is to set the prices by the canon site not my vague way of using the third price down on cpb as their supplier wanted more than my lens was insured for - borrowed a friends card and they're gonna send me a check in the post when I fax them the invoice

I thought photoguard covered new for old so cost should be irrelevant as all camera gear always goes up

you are meant to keep them informed of the current new price

I need to sit down and google my gear list for rrps, better to be over than under insured

Had a lens of mine back from repair from photoguard the other day, which took just under 3 months. Can't say I am impressed with them, shocking communication which was my biggest disappointment.

Glad you got yours sorted now.

really mate :( they take a while to get back to you but always answered the phone in half a dozen rings (well that much time as you get a machine after it goes through) and the girls on the phone were massively sweet even remembering my name :D but I did bother them a bit

Yeah I'll give them that, they were good on the phone (when I called them) but they never got back to me when they said they would (4 times).

I am insured with AXA for my buildings/contents and have just made a claim for my 50mm 1.4 which was damaged accidentally in the house, the claim could not be going any smoother, no forms to fill in, it gets collected by courier tomorrow for a company called Be Valued who a lot of insurance companies use to handle repair or replacement of claimed for items. I am told by them they will process it very quickly if it has to be replaced, I expect it be as the barrel is jammed and the glass has splintered.

My first claim on buildings or contents in over 20 years!!.

I'm just too honest:D

But there a considerable difference in cost between a 80-200L and a 50mm f1.4 so I'd guess they'd not go thru the same process (where the more expensive item may require a loss adjuster to get involved, etc).

Is this the 80-200 L "magic drainpipe" I hear of often? Is it basically the old version of the Canon 70-200 L in black not white? I gather they are quite rare and tack sharp?

I understand the point you are making but would a claim for an 80-200 involve a loss adjuster? I always understood loss adjusters were only involved in much larger claims such as fires/floods where they were employed to negotiate a total figure for the loss of many items, there would be no need for negotiation on one item if the replacement value was known. The 80-200 is no longer produced and if it is insured under new for old cover should be replaced with the 70-200L.

Not an expert, only my opinion based on what knowledge I know of the insurance sector.

they needed to take it away to confirm damage then the report needed signing off on then i got authorisation
