i just built a website!

Who is Subdreamer CMS? Apprently, He made the website :p

And change the colour of the font at the top. Make it more contrasting to the background.
Other than that, Nice and easy site to browse :)

A lot of your pages are empty.

ive still got alot to do!

First glance, a few things that came to mind
1 name too obscure against the background - (try white text)
2 wouldnt have disclaimer top middle, bottom in the small print would be better imho
3 would recode the photo numbers rather than use the camera code for them eg London Eye I or London Eye at Sunset instead of DSC_1560a
4 "To see a our selection of photographs and for samples of our work please see the gallery section"
should proabaly read (something like)
To see a selection of our photographs and to view samples of our work please see the gallery section
5 clock is a bit off-putting (imo!)
6 do those prices include posting and packing? doesn't say

that was just my first impressions -
rushed it a bit because im at work, :shake:

ok thanks for your comments stevie, ill get onto that now!

i always struggle to name files though, but i had already thought of that.... ill have a go

:agree:

Don't see the point of a clock on a website unless its worldclock on a worldclock website. Or you're a clockshop website. (you get the point) Unless you're showing off programming skills.

Sorry for being overly picky but in your gallery dropdown menu, some of choices start with a capital, some lower case.
e.g.
Gallery >> landscape
Gallery >> Wildlife & Animals

For me if there isnt much consistancy in a website it makes me think its been rushed.

Apart from that, good start :D

:agree:

Plus -

Clicking on a menu (not submenus) displays blank pages.

You've got html code showing on your contact page.

Under contruction pages are rubbish. I'd never launch a website until it's complete.

I'm inclined to agree. I built mine from scratch and although its not fantastic.... Id not put up a page until I was sure it was fully functional and spellings correct etc.
You could do yourself more harm than good this way.

Make it with your local files in Dreamweaver/FrontPage etc ... and put it up when its done and checked.

Spell Check

London eye "ar" Sunset

S/B London Eye at sunset

"Digital files are also available for sale. please conact me for further information"

Digital files are also available for sale. please contact me for further information

Sentences start with captial letters and end with full stops. You only have a few sentances on the first page. First one is fine, second has no full stop, third has no capital letter, fourth has neither. To me that looks like a schoolboy has typed it into a pre-designed website and i'd simply close the page down and look elsewhere.

If your attention to detail on your point of sale is that poor, I'd simply not look, let alone buy.

EDIT: The second page I clicked was contact which is more of the same. Also Taylor should be Tailor unless your talking about a golf brand ;)

Don't put paragraph breaks after a comma. I could go on but you get the idea. If you want to be taken seriously, make an effort ;)

Also use a form in your contact page, never publish your email address directly or the spambots get it and you end up wit a mailbox full of penis growth pills, Viagra and invitations from lonely girls in Russia!
:)

Others have pointed out some of the stuff that needs fixing, I like the general layout and it's quick to load but the drop down menus don't work in Opera.

I think that looks pretty good for your first site. Did you code it yourself? Or it is pre-made? There are a few issues though:

  • The drop down menu doesn't function 100% in FireFox
  • When visiting an empty page, the "Image Gallery" navigation goes all wonky

That's all I've found so far. Nevertheless, good site. I'm thinking of creating my own, I just need to find a decent gallery to use. Can anyone point me in the direction of one?

If you want my advice, I'd pull that website down until you have spell checked everything, you could be causing more harm than good to yourself

just a few things I've spotted, now that I'm in from work,

Landscapes
page 1, row 1, pic 3 - s/b Restful
page 1, row 2, pic 4 - s/b Country Park

page 2, row 1, pic 2 - s/b Lily (unless its not the flower your talking about)

page 2, row 2 pic 1 & 2, both called "sunset", if someone orders sunset, which one will you send to them?

page 2, row 3, pic 2, 3, 4 - No titles

page 3, row 1, pic 1 - no title

Animals - No titles on pics

Golf - camera file names, & do you have model release forms filled in for the people in the pictures? might cause problems if not, I would personally take these off the website, I would never buy a picture of someone else playing golf, unless it was Tiger Woods

Portraits - Empty, need a "Page Under Construction" notice on here

Automobile? just the one car?, s/b Automobiles or even just Cars or Classic Cars - unless your American, it doesn't sound right - imho!

Candid, same as golf can't see the need for it, be very surprised if you ever sell one of them, I'd take it off - again just mho!
also, no titles

Fireworks, camera file names, needs amending

Photography Packages, all give the same page
if it was me,
I'd display a wedding shot (that you have done, with permission) on the wedding page,
a general golf shot (the green, 18th flag, ball near the hole type shot)
Special Events, collage of parties items, streamers, wine bottles, stuff like that, or along those lines - if you see what I mean?

contact us page

"If you need to contact us for any other reason please feel free to do so."
what are you expecting here? other than contact for a photo shoot?

wouldn't personally have,
"We can tailor make our packages to suit your needs."

I'd have
We can provide tailor-made packages to suit any need
or something along those lines
from my point of view, when you say
We can tailor make our packages
it implies that you have to change your set-up to accommodate peoples needs

Our Photographers
Empty, need a "Page Under Construction" notice on here
and if you can't take a picture of yourself or each other then ....:bang:

Hope that doesn't sound too over-critical but they are just my views, you, as well as lots of people on here will have theirs

oh, and one thing i just thought of, don't know if anyone has mentioned it, you have prices of pictures, how can you pay for them?
if you take paypal or e-cheque, then you need to let people know that
no-one will put £15 cash in an envelope and post it to you

I'm guessing he used Subdreamer CMS (CMS = Content Management System) ;) :)

Ah, ok.

PS: I know what CMS is; I'm currently doing my second year in Web Development ;)

In that case your first look should have been at the bottom of the pages and your second look would have been in the source (although granted I don't think it's in the source in this case) :p:bonk::nuts:

The first thing I looked at was the source, but there wasn't anything obvious saying it was created by Subdreamer. I didn't even notice the footer. :bonk:

Just a thing:

On the right it says "...and to view samples of our work..." and at the top "Our photographs", shouldn't our be substituted for my unless your a smmal business.

Otherwise, nice and simple

Do a Google search for WAI Accessibility ( Web Accessability Initiative). There you will learn how to create an accessible web site.

By using the keyboard I was unable to access any of your menus.

Colour contrast is poor between foreground and background.

Don't be disheartened, I've met very few professional web designers who know about Web Accessibility!

Cheers,

Austin

Just a very quick note.

The opening page features not photography, but pricing. You DON'T want to do that.

I'm a portrait photog, and an expensive one. I want / need people to fall in love with my work and decide to commission me before they ever see my prices. If people saw pricing on the very first page on my website, they probably wouldn't go past that to look at my work.

Show them your work and make them want it first, THEN let them look for the pricing info.

wow!, thanks for you comments guys, and thanks to stevie, youve been a great help.

unfortuanatly i am human, and i wasnt very good at english! :(
but its all a learning curve i suppose maybe i should spell check and proove everything before i list it.
I best be careful with my spelling when i add the Child Photography section ay!

as for file name changes , im going to start that, but its gunna take me a while!

thanks for your input guys, i have taken them all seriously, as i said this is my first website, and before 1 month ago i didnt even have a clue!< i didnt even know how to buy a domain name! hehe

The golf shots are of a pre-booked event, and the people in the photos have access to my website site should they feel they want to buy one, it was a charity event so some money will go to a charity of the golf clubs choice.

doh!
