WELL HAPPY!:D

got myself a voigtlander bessa R + fed 35mm lens :D

thought it was a contax g1, but actually the seller wrote "cosina b. R"...

I was drunk anyway!

and I'm happy cos it was a voigtlander that I wanted:D(well, its a leica I want, but I also want pigs that can fly.....)

anyway, enough of rubbing it into everyone's face!

and instead, some advice anyone? tis my first RF! loving it so far, put 2 films through it getting one developed now (the other is a job to do at college!) Street Photography already seems alot easyer, i can be more sneeky, and people smile at me alot more than when i'm out with my 40D...?

I want to expand my lens repatoir, but I don't know much about Rooski/leica/zeiss/voigtlander RF lenses (or the filter rings that fit them! I can't read what it says on my 35mm FED:shrug:)... any advice? -Im on a tight budget, so it probably means that its FED's all the way for now:(

Oh, and I usually go and get my cameras CLA'd if I buy them second hand. I usually go to Kensington Cameras, but was wondering if anyone knew of a RF specialist that is fair-priced (and preferably won't charge me just to look at the camera!)

anyway, I am still chuffed! Now all I have to do is sell everything else I own for a nice lens/leica *hint-hint*

anyway hello RF-World!:D

cheers for the links, I knew about cameraquest, but had no idea they had such a vast amount of info!

also thanks for the "heads up" Blapto, but I am content with my bessa (£299 is too much for me anyway...) I will give someone else the joy of a leica for now!

hehe I still can't stop grinning:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

 Better start looking for some decent glass then ;)

 as I said..... when pigs fly!

student loan says its a zorki industar for now!

but you never know!

I might post a "wanted" thing later to see whats out there:shrug:

Anyone used/have a bessa R? Just wondering if theres any silly little piece of info that I should know that prevents the camera from falling apart...

The Bessa R shouldn't fall apart as they are Japanese and made by Cosina however I think you have one which has 39 screw thread, which means you can stick the early screw thread Leica lens on it.

The screw mount Leicas are certainly cheaper than the M mounts (mind you if your a student you may have to for go a few kebabs on a Friday night :D) and I think they will be single coated lens. Basically not quite as contrasty and a bit more prone to flare than the more modern mutli coated lens.

But I have read in another forum (no idea how true :suspect:) that the older lens are better for doing black and white

cheers all!

I read somewhere that all pre war and "during war" (leica stoped/cut production during WW2) are uncoated, but getting into the 50s and early 60s they started coating the lenses.

I don't mind really, but I do work pretty much only in B&W (however after I get this roll of velvia developed my mind shall change...)

Also, Kebabs- I wish! im vegetarian so its falafals all the way:D!

Well, as towershot said, the long quest begins.... but first I have to do preperation! (well sell some kit *hint-hint*-god, will I ever stop hinting?)

does anyone know if I get collapsable lenses (leica or russian), that they won't cause trouble internally (I read that they do on some bessa's but i think its the R2/R3's...

Can't help you with the rangefinder stuff, but get yourself down to Gaby's Deli on the Trafalgar Square end of Charing Cross Road.

:love:I know of them! YUMMY!

theres a place on Church street close to ladbroke grove, and another place on Portabello Road (Falafel King) I think he makes the best ive ever tasted!

from range finders to comparing falafel vendors. through lenses and kebabs  -how did this happen?

Ah, yes, that Portabello Road place is great! Got myself a rather nice suit of dubious origins and falafel on the same trip, that was a good day.

I'll let the thread get back on track now, sorry!

im going portabello tomorow actually, a good chance to play about with the bessa!

Don't worry though, I love falafel! let the chat flow wherever it goes!

haha!

got myself a Jupiter 50mm lens today, AND! a zorki 4k that semi-works (RF is slightly not correct, but it doesn't effect images and the shutter doesn't work on anything slower than /125th....

£3, YES THREE QUID!:eek::cuckoo:

portabello market! but don't go looking until I have gone back and got all the stuff for myself .

so now at least I have a working 50mm lens, perfect optics, other than it does have one piece of dust inside, but doesn't effect image (hopefully) and I can always get it out somehow (any ideas?)!

now all I have to do is save up for some leica gear:lol:

I got myself a Yashica Lynx 5000 yesterday off our good friend ebay :D for a tiny fee. To accompany my old FED

watching the door in anticipation

congrats!

hope you get some nice shots out of it!

time for a range finder shoot-out!

:D:D:D

WELL HAPPY!:D

got myself a voigtlander bessa R + fed 35mm lens :D

Ooooo, that's a nice lookin camera

I'm not used to looking for 35mm stuffs, I've bid on a few barn door Voigtlanders, purely on looks, but not with conviction.

Have you got any scans to show us all yet? :naughty:

I do have a few shots of lamps/out of my window from the roll of kodak gold 200 that was in the camera.

they aren't really any good though, it was mostly me tinkering with settings and the rf, not knowing how to use it! Haven't bothered to scan them in, but I might just now....

also, I have tonnes of stuff taken on B+W film, but I have to wait a week or two to develop it at college :( annoying really as I now have a backlog of 10 or 20 films to get dev'd! thats gonna take me at least half a day in which I need to revise!

I have a slide film or two though (fujicrome?/velvia?) if its a nice day tomorow i will pass that through the cam!

I want pics now lol:lol:

thats the beauty! but all-black, not the silver version! If you have the cash for one of these (and not for a leica;)) then I would go for it! I haven't put it down since I got mine, im constantly snapping away! The 40d is slowly gathering a thick layer of dust!

Yes I know what you mean, haven't shot D200 for pleasure for a long while, I don't take it anywhere, I just use it for jobs.

I keep thinking film might wear off a bit, but it doesn't

My Yashica Lynx 5000 arrived today, what a beaut!
I had been previously put off by my cheap FED which focus ring was stuck, but this is slick and fast, all the controls are on the lens so its real fast :)

Once I learn how to develop B+W film, I don't see any reason why I'd ever need digital

I know! There are times where I think "hmm, I could COULD use the 40d, but then I end up snapping away in film!

I just love it!:D

though, like henri-cartier-bresson, I hate hate hate having to sit in a dark room for hours on end! i usually end up developing the negs, and then taking them somewhere to be printed (works out cheaper for me!) thats one nice thing with digital, it is usually quicker to get an image printed if you want!

good for you! but don't loose faith in your fed entirerly! I have a shiny bessa, but still use the great stalinist memorial to the man who set up the KGB! (yes, feds and zorkis +tractor works are all named after the polak who set up the KGB and actually carried out all of stalins killings!)

as I said above, you will enjoy the developing, but it will eat your free time like an american with a macdonalds in their living room! theres no end to it:lol:

Not sure if you're interested but there's a leather case for the Bessa R up on ebay at the moment linky

cheers for the linky! buy mine came with one!

:D

tomorrow I shall use the fuji velvia slide film! I bought these two slide viewers/lights AGEEEES ago to have them mounted and displayed (cost a HELL of a lot, and I haven't used them once:lol:) -might consider selling one actually.

my praktica's light meter was good for B&W but I could never get a properly exposed image on slide. hopefully now all will be different:D

I already had two of these, one in silver chrome, the other in black. They offer a lot for the money and, in my opinion, are very beautiful cameras.

I still have some Voigtänder lenses - that is use in my M8 - and they are amazing!

If you want something cheap but with excellent quality for street photography, try to find an Ultron 35mm f/1.7 or a Skopar Classic 35mm f/2.5. I already had both and found them excellent. Now i have the Nokton 35mm f/1.4 MC, but this one has Leica M mount.

I'm just talking about 35mm lenses, because I think they are the best for general use.
If you want something wider, try the Ultron 28mm f/1.9. It incridibly sharp, even wide open.

I love mine lol! hasn't left my side/eyes since I got it!:D

cheers for the lens advice. one is a little on the skint side at the moment, but am looking into getting something nice for the summer!

if you ever decide to sell anything, can I have first pic?:D:lol: I will pay asking!

but then again, why would you? -pigs will fly before anyone decides to sell-up suff like that:lol:
