I entered a competition run by the London Photographic Association last year. The theme was renaissance, and this was the brief:-

We are looking for digital photographs in colour or black and white on the theme of Renaissance. Life is full of moments when the human spirit triumphs over adversity, when the human eye suddenly sees the world from a new perspective, when we rediscover a sense of awe and wonder. You are invited to capture through the lens those instances when we suddenly see the beauty, value and meaning of life.

You can see my entries here.

I have just received this response

I am pleased to say that the judges (Mary McCartney, Eamonn McCabe, KT Tunstall and Eve's deputy editor) met yesterday and have selected your photograph (below) to be exhibited at Proud galleries from 5th - 9th March.

They have also shortlisted your photograph for consideration in respect of the prizes. The judges will be voting for the first and second prize winners on Monday 14th January, once the shortlisted candidates have provided a high resolution image.

In order to be considered for the final round of judging, please could you:
- email me BY 9AM ON 14TH JANUARY AT THE LATEST your entry as a tif file - 8" wide 300dpi; and
- let me know the highest resolution possible for this image. We will need you to send this high resolution image to us by CD rom at the address below.

Congratulations - the series is beautiful and I hope Christian's health is OK.

Best regards
Fiona

Fantastic.....very moving picture indeed...Good Luck

Congratulations Peter, great shot and great news about Christian.

The image of Christian with his head on his arm is for me the most moving of the set, I remember when you originally posted it and how it brought a lump to my throat, as it is now.

Probably one of the most emotive photographs I've seen. I hope you don't mind me showing it from your gallery.

Just wanted to add my congratulations both to you and your family.

Missed this before, but congrats :) and good to see Christian is doing well

Fabulous shot Peter, really emphasises the bond that they have.

Good luck in the finals mate, let us know how you get on! :-)

Good to hear that Christian's on the mend

Thanks again for your kind words. Hacker, I must admit, I was surprised they chose the one they did over the others, as I much prefer the one you posted. In fact, I can see many faults in the one they chose, the white balance looks out for a start!

It was a tricky year, but I must admit learning about photography was pretty cathartic and it gave me something to do when I was by his bedside in the hospital. I got a lot of great advice from this site and appreciated the straight criticism I received even though the subject matter must have been somewhat heart wrenching.

I particularly remember CT helping me out with lots of helpful advice at the time (amongst many others of course).

Thanks guys.

All been said already, so just adding my congrats too!
I also agree with you and Colin on the choice of picture, the one just above is indeed very moving.
Also, great to hear positive things regarding Christian's health

Hi Pete. Firstly, I'm really pleased Christian is looking so healthy. Such a difference to when i met him back in March!!

Secondly, excellent photo sir - the lighting is spot on and the moment is perfect for the brief.

Great stuff and much deserved

Nearly missed this

Can only echo all of what has been said above and trust that all will be well with Christian now, next week and also long from now.

Cheers Peter and well done m8
