I have a Job Interview

its not good - but it could mean that you were second and they are checking refs on the preffered candidate before they give you the kiss off

thats the way we do it - anyone who's not a realistic hire gets told first , then the 'succesful' candidate gets an offer subject to refs, and the reserve candidate isnt told either way until those refs come back (at least verbally)

Of course it could also mean they are a bunch of thoughtless morons

or that they just havent got round ito it

( I know a girl who went for a PAs job to an extremly disorganised company director... didnt hear anything for a week , so she called them, and it turned out that she was the preffered candidate but they hadn't got their act together to actually tell her  )

This sort of thing seems to happen quite often. I can understand employers wanting to check out the preferred candidate's references, and confirming that they're going to accept the position, before getting in touch with the others but that's no excuse. Just advise all the candidates that you'll contact them by a certain date, giving yourself enough time to go through the process.

Must be very frustrating for you Terri, particularly when they seem to have implied that they were going to offer you the job. My wife has experienced other frustrations. We live in a village, about three miles from a small town. It's a rural area, jobs are scarce, and unemployment is high. She's applied for a number of positions and heard nothing further, or been unsuccesful, and then discovered that they filled the position with a friend or relative of someone working for the company, who had already been lined up for it. It's a small community and I suppose this is common enough, but it suggests that a lot of these firms just go through the motions of interviewing candidates to comply with company policy.

It could be that you are second choice and waiting to hear from first choice before letting everyone else know. Either way, a phone call will show you're keen and proactive.

thanks everyone.. i know they are short staffed and looking for a few people and not that many people applied. i will ring but when i know it will be ok to not at the busiest part of the day and see if the manager is in that did the interview..

Or pushy and impaitent - depending on how they are feeling

I agree its a good idea to call but i'd give it another day or so first - if they are short staffed the manager could be just run off his feet

Pal of mine had his company knocked from under him as his customer (Ford) decided to have machine parts made abroad.

he was out of a job and decided to do dog walking, he is now earning more than when he employed 30 people before and loves it.

No set up costs and he has more clients waiting for his services than both him and his wife can manage. he does 6 dogs in the morning and another 6 in the afternoon so does his wife. I don't know exactly what he charges but if its only say as an example £3 for each dog walk thats 24 dogs daily = £72 a day say for 5 days a week = £ 360 a week and I am sure he charges a more as he goes to the customers houses to pick up and drop off the dogs. Oh and both are pensioners and have a zone limit they will collect from.

Bazza Where i live i'd be lucky to start something like that. i am in the middle of no where

I'd still call and say I'd like to be considered for other roles that might come up in the future should you be told you didn't get this particular job. As you've said they are short staffed now and with it a weekend, perhaps someone who has to give the final nod to the job sign off is away as well.

Good luck.

Di

Yes i rang and the lady i needed to talk to wasn't in and i left a message and asked her to ring she didn't. the message i left was just asking for feed back from the interview.

I just had an interview for a job at mountain warehouse in Cirencester, I thought the interview went ok I was told I'd know if I had the job or not on Thursday the 29th of August. I sat in doing house work and spent some time reading so as not to miss a call, and what a wasted day as I heard nothing no phone call or email not even a text message, Not what I call confidence boosting I have to say.

That probably means they told the successful candidate yesterday and they haven't got round to telling the unsuccessful ones

Very poor Terri. If someone has made the effort to prepare for interview whether it is for a Tea person or a Chief Executive post they deserve to be contacted and have feedback. I work for myself but am brought in to manage in various companies or Local Authorities. I interview lots of people for various jobs and have always made a point of giving feedback (proper feedback and not standard you were very close nonsense......unless they were). It is difficult as you know some people have really worked their socks off to prepare but have still missed out. I really like people that show an interest and really want to know how to improve.

I recently spent the day calling 13 unsuccessful people back with feedback from interviews and one of them said "its a shame you didn't give me the job because I will be working with you one day and we are just wasting time. I want to work for the company and I will just keep applying until you give me a job. Next time you see me I will get the job". She wasn't messing about. She is now in and she is fantastic.

Keep your chin up. You will get there........

Chris :)

Thank Chris.. i wish all people were like you. I have a feeling that the person that Interviewed me hadn't really had much experience in doing so..

I know it's hard Terri, but there will be other opportunities in the future. And to be quite honest, if they can't be bothered to at least give you some feedback on how the interview went then they're probably not worth working for anyway. It works both ways you know!

Thanks Bill i am still looking and will keep on looking.
Adam i am but i have problems with public transport E.G. there isn't any at the weekends. i have been looking in those areas. we get the cruise ships in twice a week it seems.

just have to keep going.

just have to keep going.

chin up and carry on

i might only be 19 and know nothing about the world :p but i would like to share my motto - "if you want nice things, you gotta work hard" (nice is relative and applies to everything) it really helps motivate me whenever i feel like giving up (exercising, work etc)

best of luck :)

get yourself one of those little 49cc motor scooters... cheap, nippy, ideal for small lanes, easy to park, run for ages on a couple of litres of fuel, and you can ride one on L plates

Thinking about that as soon as i can afford to buy one i think it is the way ahead.

Thought you were leaving us for a while???? :)

I did , didn't you notice
