So it's a beautiful blue sky and the sun is shining, yet here I am sitting in my old familiar chair with a coffee and enjoying the benefits of the central heating.
Outside the sun has been shining on the driveway for around an hour yet the coat of ice all over my car hasn't even begun to thaw and looking at the Slimbridge webcam someone has had to break the ice for the ducks!
The weather-lady keeps saying that there is black ice about and the possibility of freezing fog and the man at the gritting depot has been explaining just how many tons of grit and salt they have chucked on the roads ... not really encouraging me to leave my coffee.
The traffic on the main road is moving very slowly, as it always does when someone says the weather is bad (even if it isn't) and I can't really work up the enthusiasm to go out.
I could move away from the central heating and do that overdue work to strip down my old computers in the garage ready to take to the tip ... or I could just make myself another coffee.
I guess it's now official ... I am an old southern softy. :coffee:

I got called out on Sunday, had a phone call after 20 mins asking me for an eta - told them I was still digging the car out.
Then drove to Exeter and back yesterday.

On the other hand, the light this morning is fantastic. Frost on the trees

-11.5 this morning on the way into work.

Lovely and bright here but my camera is at home!

What is this snow and ice you southerners are on about? Up here in the frozen north it's cold crisp and clear. I can see for miles and miles (just like The Who).
A lovely winter's day.
Saw the BBC News. An inch of snow in Gerrard's Cross (that's Lunnun ain't it?) and the country grinds to a halt. It's a pity none of those Chelsea Tractors have four wheel drive.

Have you put a jumper on yet, or still in a t-shirt?

It's funny watching people try to drive this morning, I guess it's a life skill they are learning. The council really haven;t gritted anywhere, there's a complete absence on the roads, so what we had turned to slush yesterday and has now frozen. So many people sliding around this morning, not able to be gentle

Nearest gritted road to me is 2 miles away. I shall go out in a bit (after another tea) and find out how lethal the lane is after Sunday's rain (when my partner nearly found out the hard way how not to tackle a ford) and last night's frost. I really should have been at the reservoir first thing this morning, but.................
At least I've always been a soft southwesterner :)

I'm with you Gramps, coffee is gurgling at the moment, saving myself for a trip to Llandudno tomorrow!

Our postie is still wearing shorts. (+ Santa hat)
Are the southern posties still in Summer shorts?

My post-lady just came through well covered and with a big woollen hat!

Same here. Huge Post Office logo'd coat (shes a tiny thing). She said she had many layers on. Just got above freezing here.

The posties up here have a competition to see who lasts longest in shorts. There's money involved and some if them go right through the winter in shorts.

I still wear shorts often. Don't usually feel the cold and think it's quite amusing when the parents at the school gates are wrapped like Eskimos in September.

Bit like watching a football match in mid-winter and the odd bare-chested nutter in the stand.

Ahh that might be what they're doing then. (y)

Well all I can say is "it was -12 last night and it's still bl**dy freezing now", we still have over a foot of snow on the ground, which I can't see thawing anytime soon, even though it's meant to rain overnight.
It's brass monkeys and I'm working outside.

One of Mrs Nod's students was in shorts and a T-shirt when he left at 13:20. Still chuffing chilly (for us soft Southern pansies!) out there. The frost made long putts ... interesting as the frost built up on the ball.
