I just looked at my Alamy stats, as havent even been on it for ages.

I found I had made a sale in August last year!

I got a whole $0.83, but with commison $0.43
Ill be retiring soon I reckon!

Dont spend it all at once, save some for a rainy day.

Congratulations by the way.

What was it used for? As in who used it and how?

I know you are chuffed and I understand why, but in reality it is an absolute disgrace. The end user will have made far more than your 30p out of it. Alamy have taken as much with no input into the creative process.

Yet again a good, creative photographer is being used and taken for granted by greedy end users. They are using the desire to see work used as a lever to gain extra profit at their end - and we are paying for it.

Usage is vanity, but profit is sanity.:)

I hope you go on to get other sales that more realistically reflect the worth of your work and the effort you went to create the image.

Before anyone accuses me of sour grapes, I am not blaming the originator, I take issue with the businesses that only value his image at a few pence. That reflects on the importance they place on their product - but I bet they multiply that fee many fold for their own ends. That is greed, not business.

I dont know where is was used, it says Novel use, but no other info that I can see.

Yes its pretty poor that I only get 30p, but at the end of the day, its 30p more than I had before.
I didnt take the picture for stock, I was testing out a lens and just stuck it on Alamy with a load of others. I didnt really expect to sell anything. So its not like I spent hours taking images and all I got for it was 30p. I do photography as a hobby, not for money. If I take a shot and someone wants to buy it, then all the better.

Nice one! Why the hell didnt my person pay that much..
How many do you have up at the moment?

Tom, you know you can opt out of novel use? I value my time and effort and made sure I never signed up to that scheme. It will always give very cheap returns
Well done on the first sale though

Dont remember signing up to it TBH. Not even sure what it is! I guess if I hadnt signed up to it, I wouldnt have my beloved 30p!!

I have 60 or so shots on Alamy, total sales (I say say sales, I sold one) last year was £6. I have 60 or so shots on Getty, total sales last year was about £1,500. There is a reason why I have given up with Alamy :-(

Aren't they one and the same these days anyway? As in Getty own Alamy?

I tried getting on Getty but don't think I could find an easy route to submit stuff.

I've got about 20 or so on alamy. Sold one last year after a few months. Massive $12!

I thought about Getty but a) I haven't been invited and b) they want exclusive and seem quite restrictive.

I have 3 on Getty that were invited through Flickr. I've submitted some more through the Flickr group, but it's been about 7 months and not heard anything, so guess they wernt accepted. Not sure how else or if you can even submit any other way.

Ah ok, I thought about doing the Flickr thing but the stuff I post on Flickr isn't what I'd put on a library so not much point. Guess I could start another Flickr account or just have the stock stuff set to private.

I'm not sure how they work it out, but I regularly get asked to add stuff to the library every month as they work through any new uploads or my older stuff. I suppose the fact it sells makes it easier for me to get stuff accepted.
