I have my 5D now :woot:, but no compact flash :( waiting for play to deliver it :)

Anything to know about the 5D the manual wont tell me?

I moved from a 400D to a 5D
The full frame sensor is just amazing, especially with wider lenses
And IMHO, the image quality is just streets ahead.

What did you have before?

Just how much you're going to love it

You'll need good quality glass to go with it ;)

Wide will now be properly wiiiiiiiide :D

I'm already liking the look through the viewfinder, everything is more alive.

i had Nikon D40x before, be sad to see it go :|

Oh you will just love this baby!!
Had mine about 8 months now and no looking back.
As Grendel says, some good glass and you are in tog heaven!:):D

Would it have a field day with my nifty fifty? (1.8)

Nifty Fifty on a 5D is a lovely combination :D

This was taken in very low light with my 5D and nifty at 1.8 :)

As has been said, a truly great camera but demands quality glass to unlock it's potential. Enjoy it!

looks like i may need a nifty fifty, dont think the bank account can take it at the moment, just had quite a shock thanks to the 5D.

Umph! I'm not talking to you.....

(walks off and sulks..)

Slight hijack - As I'm considering a 5D when I find a bag of cash lying around. I get that the IQ will show up any poor glass. But just how good is good glass? eg. Would it have a field day with my nifty fifty? (1.8)

The main problem you will have is with lenses on the wider end. Canon is quite good on the longer end actually (85mm+) but wider then 35 you will have problems with corners of the frame, expecially with zooms, but thankfully, there is a wide range of Olympus OM, and Contax Zeiss wide angle lenses for not too bad prices to choose from.

Grab yourself a Canon EOS 5D field guide.

I've had my 5D for a year and I still found loads in the field guide that I didn't know!
Especially about customisation. It's a lovely little beastie.

nice one

i went from a 350d to 30d and now have two 5d`s . next get yourself a EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM , fantastic lens , i picked mine up for around £900 on ebay last year .
you can`t beat good glass . you only live once , and lets face it one good lens is like paying your gas and electric for the year , thing is you won`t mind paying for the lens .

have fun with your new toy , i`ll bet you wish you had your flash card .:bang:

rog

i've got to pay for the 5D yet :|

the field guide sounds interesting.

Nice one. Only had a quick go on one but could instantly tell it was a fantastic camera. Almost went for one of these instead of the D300.

2gb compact flash from argos £39.99 - same card from play £10.99

think i'll wait :D

I hate you :razz: i want a 5D :bang::thumbsdown:

Congrats, welcome to the club and enjoy a GREAT camera:thumbs::D

If you post examples soon enough we might just teach you the secret handshake:lol:

I moved from a 350D up to a 5D and could not believe the difference, with a 100-400 it is off this planet! Fun, Fun!

Has anyone any experience and comments on using a Sigma 10-20mm on a 5D?

The Siggy 10-20 isn't compatible with the 5D. You could use the Canon 17-40 which will give the same field of view on the 5D as a 10-20 would on a (say) 40D - ie on a 1.6 crop sensor body. Alternatively you could use the sigma 12-24 on the 5D. Now that IS WIIIIDE!!!

> "The Siggy 10-20 isn't compatible with the 5D."

In what way is it not compatible? I once tried it on an EOS 35mm film camera and it looked OK through the viewfinder, like a fisheye, (I never saw the finished negative).

The Sigma 10-20 is designed for crop-sensor cameras (that's the DC designation in its name), not full-frame. You would get very pronounced vignetting using it on a 5D :(
