Okay.

So I went to Focus on Imaging with some of the guys from here and I was looking at the 400d that my mate had brought with him, I loved the extra large LCD screen - compared to mine it was huge. Someone said that Jacobs were selling canon 400D B stock (fully refurbed by canon for £399) so I went to have a look. I found that they were also selling the 30d for £599, so I decided that upgrading to the 400d would give me a larger LCD and the anti sensor dust thingymawhatnot but that wasn't all that much.

I decided to plunge straight in and just buy the 30d instead, so I have it sat here with the battery charging :)

Oh well, its my birthday in a week :D

:o Imaging all the pizza you could have got for £600 :p only kidding, nice one! You are up their with the big boys now ;)

This mean you are selling your 350d?

Woohoo! Join the 30d club.... you're gonna love it....specially that big screen!

Welcome to the 30D club mate. She's a beaut to be sure :)

I honestly don't know the answer to that one - I could sell it, I wouldn't make anywhere near as much back as I could now because the 400d is out. Its devalued quite a fair bit. I have the grip and extra batteries though so I could sell them seperately.

Wow congratulations Matt  I bet you've got a huge grin on your face right now

Funnily enough I got my hands on Jonnyreb's 30D last night after our curry meet and I have to say I loved it  . Feels so much more solid than my 400D (not to say I'm not happy with my 400 of course). I went to town today to have another look. The only thing that stopped me buying one there and then is the fact that I'd actually drop 2MP from the 10MP on the 400, that and no dust removal system (although I still don't know how good it is other than to say I haven't got a speck of sensor dust since I bought it ). Knowing how you must be feeling with your new baby sitting there now I feel totally jealous though I have to say. Enjoy ;)

btw Photo Optix had it for the "special price" of £699 so you got a bargain I reckon

I tried to talk him out of it Sue, honest.

Excellent Matt - you're seriously going to love it. The two things I loved most when I swapped to the 30D were the HUGE screen and the spot metering. You certainly won't regret the buy.

I was very tempted last time I got paid to just splash out and buy a 30d :( I just turned the pc off instead before I pressed go to checkout....got to say with the weather we have had I am glad I didnt as I would have been out in all weather trying to take photos! now its getting towards spring I can see myself being tempted again!

Then again I might just save up for a 5d :D

Let me know if you do decide to sell your 350 Matt, been trying to talk my dad into buying one for a while...save us fighting over the same one :)

That's exactly the same as me!! I like the lots of different ISO numbers too. No need to jump from 200 to 400. Lots of little nudges in between! ;)

fwiw I'd keep it. So many times I've wished I had 2 bodies so I could have my 17-70 on one and a zoom on the other

LOL!

For the record:

Steve earlier::

You'd might as well go for the 30d, its only £150 more and its a much better camera - its like a much better upgrade and its a semi pro whereas the 400d/350d are enthusiasts cameras.

Talking me out of it indeed :p

ROFL - I forgot that - which is astonishing as it's one of the main reasons for me choosing the flippin' thing!

Yeah just trying to find the best price on a grip and batteries for it and I need them pre Thursday so Amazon are looking like a good choice.

Well done good choice!

As long as you can still afford to eat, keep the spare body it'll be invaluable. :)

Oh we can still afford to eat, whether or not we can stay in the house too I dunno ;)

nah its all fine I just hope canon bring out some cashback vouchers so i can get sues new lens a little easier.

Ahem! Signature strip Matt :D

I was still deciding what to change it to ;) I need to take the 50mm out too because that lives in sue's bag ;)

nice one matt!

I've got loads of people after my grip :p

Its amazing how cheap you can pick one up for now, the 30d grip is £30 more :(

Want the slingshot AW 300 but thats going to have to wait until next month.

Well I am home now, he did ring me and ask, but stuck in bradford at work with my boss stood next to me what am I supposed to say. The best bit was he asked me if I wanted one, well we cant afford one let alone two. :) but hey what a birthday and christmas present he is now sorted for the next couple of years, no chance of us affording my lens now, it will have to wait for a few months now, the credit card is now screaming at us, what with new sofa on it, and the need to buy a new carpet. So lets see what photos he gets with the new camera.

The credit card isn't even slightly moaning, let along screaming. Stop being such a drama queen :p

Yeah ok, but it will be soon as you now need a new bag to fit everything in, i still havent got my lens (the thing you went for) you still want a momopod, oh yeah and we are out all weekend from thursday afternoon to sunday night. :p

seriously thought hope you enjoy you new camera :)

  :D

Its not a problem, means I dont need to buy any presents for a little while anyway ;)

Well it could have been worse Sue - He could have got a 1Ds :p

Well done Matt

You have joined all of us with a camera and left the toy owners club

Hope you've got some more memory too, 5 fps don't half use it up :)

If you do find a REALLY low price for a 30D grip let me know.

You people all have far too much money to be buying all these toys  I'm still using my 300D! I've had it 3yrs or so now :)

when you sell your 350D, can you let me know how much you want for it please? :)

Yeah just trying to find the best price on a grip and batteries for it and I need them pre Thursday so Amazon are looking like a good choice.

Matt - you'll get LOADS of shots out of a brand new 30d battery - trust me! I'd get the 7 day shop compatible batteries for it anyway - two for a tenner and they last longer than the Canon one! I think I clocked my BP511's first use at somewhere like 650 shots before I eventually chickened out and charged it even though it hadn't run dry!

The grip is a wonderful thing also - I shot an hour and a half of rugby yesterday having forgotten mine - reminds you of just how heavy L series lenses can be I can tell you - my hand's still aching!
