After failing in the classified to grab a 70-300 IS I've gone and made the fatal mistake and bought my first L, a brand new, shiny 70-200 f4.

Can't wait for morning to go and take it for a test run.

Nope the non-IS, will have to wait for a lottery win for 2.8 and/or IS lol

cracking lens for the money, mine is very very sharp

290 ??? Wow, total bargain...I paid 360 for mine and thought I'd done pretty well. Excellent lens.

They don't come round at that price very often!

Think I better get round to sorting some insurance now, think I would cry if anything happened to it.

Here's my first shot with it, just a quick snapshot of my lad after footy. The IQ improvement reminds me of when I first got my nifty fifty over a kit lens

so is the percieved goodness of the 'L' worth it then ? , this will be my first 'L' as well ........

If you've never owned one before, you're in for a nice surprise. It's so much smoother and quieter than any other non L lens I've used.

Never had the 70-300 compare it to, just a 75-300 which isn't worth comparing.

As for the 'L', it feels just right, very nice to hold. Took a few bird shots with it today (not long enough really and had to crop) but that's not what it was bought for, will be giving it a good run out next week to do my son's footy team photos.

I think you made a very good decision - you would have regretted it if you had bought the 70-300 actually, the price difference is quite small but the performance is a lot better on the 70-200 F4L!

Yep, I'm officially addicted.

This pic is from yesterday. Must say I'm not a real birdy person and it's been cropped a bit but fairly happy with my snap of a Nuthatch
