:)Hi everyone, just looking for some advice, the last three days, there has been two very small cute kittens, roaming around in my garden, and when we're cooking, they will sit on the window ledge, and peer in.

They look as though they have been left out, or run away. I noticed that they have been staying under my car spares, which are covered with a big sheet, so i have been leaving plates of milk and some tuna out for them, and they seem to eat/drink it all and today, i put a cardboard box with a blanket in, under the sheet for them to stay in.

I have asked a few people in my street if they know who they belong to, but no one seems to know....

The thing is, i cant bring them into the house, due to my dad having allergies(sp) and i feel cruel leaving them out in the cold, and its snowed today.

What do i do? who do i call? i've never had pets and delt iwth any so i dont have a clue.

It depends on how young/old they are, but they may be 'chipped' (a microchip usually at the back of the neck..... but you would need a scanner to know!!).

Our cats have a tag around their neck stating they are chipped (and our phone number), but presumably these have no collar.

Might be worth calling RSPCA who would be able to tell. Not sure if they do callouts of this nature these days (?).

If you can take a photo of them, try posting it on nearby lamposts.

Of course it is possible the owner has released them in the hope someone takes them in :(
 
Call your local vet (yellow pages or look up your nearest vet on the internet) who can probably advise you of the nearest RSPCA or Cats Protection League asap. If they are very little kittens they won't survive for long so please, do pick up the phone asap.

The Cats Protection League etc will usually be able to come out and collect kittens/cats if you don't have transport.

Let us know how you get on.
 
I spoke to RSPCA, and they said they are unable to take them in and gave me contact number for cats protection, near me....

I have contacted them and they said they have a waiting list for cats to come in and cant take any in at the min....

I have a local vet up the road, so will try them, otherwise, i will find a friend to take them in....

I just hope i can save them
 
Put your father out under the sheet and bring in the kittens. Result!

yep, do bring them in and see if you can find someone to look after them - mebbe ask the vet if you can put a notice up in the waiting room and see if anyone will take them from there.

I've only got crappy mobile phone pics that i took this morning...


I have managed to get a friend to take them in untill we can find someone to look after them for good.

Its sad that they were just left out :(
 
Just had a look at the link gary, and the closest to me is preston. Called them, and they said they will take them in, but i would need to take the kittens to them. I will do just that once the snow goes.

Atleast they are now safe and warm, and i know my friend will take good care of them till i can take them to preston

At least that's some good news.

It really makes me mad at what people are willing to do to get rid of unwanted animals (I won't call them pets because they are not pets to them). It's also obvious that certain charities and formal organisations are happy to shift the responsibilities (and the guilt) onto those who are compassionate enough to care..

RSPCA won't care - unless there is a TV camera around :(

I would ring all the local vet's to see if anyone has reported them missing, they should also check them for microchips for you (for free) if you can get them there to see if they are registered anywhere. Look out for signs in local shops, on lamposts and in your local papers as these are all the sorts of places that people post notices about missing cats.

Good for you for providing food and shelter for them
 
I agree with Christine, the vets is the place to go. Take them there if you can as they'll have a scanner (assuming that the owners had them chipped). I'm hoping that they have just gone exploring and got themselves lost rather than abandoned.

If they are unchipped, then a local rescue centre would be the place to take them if you are unable to look after them.
 
please make sure they are not chipped before rehoming.
They look in good condition, but please hold back on the tuna and milk, milk isnt very good for them.
rspca and most cats protection are full to bursting, your local vets may take them and often strays ed up getting rehomed through there.

Ooh yes, missed that in the OP. It's a common misconception that milk is good for cats. The milk we drink is very dsifferent from their mothers' milk and can do them a lot of harm, especially at a young age.
 
Nobody suggested a wheelie bin yet, worked well for the last person who used it if I recall correctly ;) :naughty:

Seriously though the local vets should be able to help locate somewhere to go if there not chipped, at least my local vet helped when my neighbour had a stray wanting to move in.

water is enough
dont give uncooked chicken - they love it but - salmonella is a prob...!

Most places that sell pet food also sell special milk for cats - ours loves it and it doesn't give her a runny bum like cows' milk used to when Dad used to give her that.
 
have a little kitten myself, who is great fun... these guys are very cute, as others have suggested the best thing is to find out if they are chipped or not, if not then they will need re homing, best thing to do is post up on here : http://www.petforums.co.uk/

allot of pet lovers on there that may be able to help and or guide, in regards to the milk and fish - a big no no - milk especially, fish isn't too bad in smallish quantities but it can be bad for cats..

ooops, i didnt know that, i always thought milk was ok and so was fish.

I went to the local vets and they said to bring the kittens in tomorrow to get them checked and also i got them food that the vets told me to feed them.

The kittens are loving it at my mates, and got stuck into the food.
