I feel very guilty not posting any of my pictures

Always a pleasure to see you in the flesh & you showing me your kit - camera kit that is as I've not changed sides :p

If you get to Totnes is it my round for the coffee

Get the Kettle on Tea and Biscuits round at John's pad- Hmmm Mini TP meet I'm thinking :D

I for one look forward to my daily dose of Critique from you John despite your dry sense of humor, I often think about posting a really bad image to get your attention mate, I'd be up for a meet too Totnes is not a million miles from me ( Please bear that in mind when critiquing my images :p)

It would be nice to see some images by you as and when, but no rush to get some up my friend - that said, I'll be keen to offer critique in my own particular style

keep up the critique and comments - they are appreciated

Les ;)

Not a lot to add to this John, TP needs people like you to give input and I hope you're snapping away asap.

You may note I always tend to tag my threads with the prefix "critique." I think we all critique on peoples threads as a matter of course (not really sure what other reasons there are for posting images to forums) but I add the label in case anyone is in doubt that I am open to critique. That is true for critique from someone who has years of experience of shooting macro or someone who has never picked up a camera before (although admittedly they may be a rarity on this forum). My point is, as long as you offer honest feedback about what you like or don't like about an image, I am able to learn from you, regardless of if you have any experience in trying to produce similar images yourself.

The other thing I love about sharing images is the possibility of sharing something that others may not have seen before or, at least, in a way to which they may not have previously seen it. This is one of the main attractions to me about macro photography, it was opening up new worlds I hadn't even noticed existed and I really enjoyed showing others what I had discovered.. So in a round about way, you not being able to get and and see these things for yourself at the moment, adds more value to what I do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's good you are stuck indoors, but hopefully you understand what I am trying to say ;)

I must confess I had wondered why you, who seem so enthusiastic and encouraging of our little obsession, hadn't yet been out to try your hand at it. I just figured it would something you would do when time allowed, but now it makes more sense. I just wish you a speedy recovery from your current illness and you are feeling up to experimenting with some of the possibilities of macro soon. Don't rush it though, the bugs aren't going anywhere. They'll be around long after we are, so they say...

Thanks Tim the good news is I have taken my cameras out a few times this week but my wife is wondering why I am staring at very small areas of plants, or the garden wall - she thinks I've gone 'fully cuckoo' instead of 'partially cuckoo'.

Tim also read your journey on your Flickr which is part of why I've become an ardent reader of the macro section. I doubt I will ever be doing the really close close close ones as I am not able but will be trying to get in closer than I'd have thought I would a few months ago. Guys like you are to blame :)

Again thanks for your input & I'm glad if my posting has explained to you, & others, why no images :)

John it seems to me you are an essential cog in the machine that is talkphotography, it is your feedback/appreciation which encourages me and probably others to do more.

 so cheers to you ! and good luck with your recovery.

Thanks Dan - good of you to say & I must admit I do feel a sense of my making a contribution is important as I don't want to be all take (y)

Why on earth would you feel guilty? Please don't ... There's absolutely no need.

To me, the whole point of forums like these is that they are a community of very different people who happen to have something in common. And they are there for members to participate however much they chose or are able, in whatever way feels right for them. There aren't any rules (as far as I know) that say you have to post your own images, just because you choose to comment on the work of others. Your opinions are always welcome, I'm sure.

Just keep participating in the forum in whichever way feels right for you.

I hope your health issues start to improve and that, as the weather gets better, you are able to get out more and enjoy your hobby. All the best .....

Sara

Thanks QS - reassuring for me to read & yes getting out is good. I get out every day but it has been 200 yards to the coffee shop & back with little else but any more/further would be good.

Again thanks for taking the time to post :)

John, I can only reiterate what everyone else has said... you always take the time to offer feedback and are always so encouraging in your comments. I think you're great! :)

Thanks Les your comments are important as I do like my daily 'fix' from you (no pressure) & in the past few days I've realised the single flower, easy peasy shots are not that easy. I never though they were but I've been frequenting a neighbours colourful front garden taking flowers & even tried a critter. Quite funny as my wheelchair has stabilisers, at the back, but leaning over the side with my flippy screen camera, trying to get low down, my chair started tipping over sideways but I managed to correct it. So my wife isn't just my wife & pusher but she now has to be my wheelchair holder

If you're ever this way I would buy you a coffee as long as you left that big thing at home - gun - not your big camera - that Sony A77 which is really a mobile phone isn't it. Never mind one day you may a real DLSR :p

But seriously thanks for your words (y)

Thanks Bethy as well as the Macro I spot posters like you on other section & I absolutely love your style & PP so keep putting your shots there for my sake

Hi John, As many others have said there is absolutely no reason to feel guilty in any way whatsoever, you are one of many that comment without submitting any images all for their own various reasons. That doesn't matter It's always good to see your comments and you must enjoy the TP site the best way you are "Able" or "Want" to. "ENJOY".

George.

That's brilliant news, because as I read through the thread, I was going to ask if you felt up to taking a camera to the coffee shop with you - and maybe sharing some results with us ;)

I've met John and he is a "pure" "proper" TP member! Apart from the fact that he let us "rob him" of his old Fuji X10 [Thanks yet again, mate! It's still doing great! :woot: ] his knowledge and critique adds hugely to every thread he contributes to!

Pick a flower place in a vase with water, put on a table at a height that suits, add a plain BG and shoot away easy

like these, shot in my kitchen

Food for thought?

Les ;)

Sure is food for thought & thank you - and sorry about the bums on my other post I feel really guilty  :$

Well hello & thanks you so much Jon for your very kind words - (Jaffa's on the way) :)

Glad your (my old X10) has served you well & so I will not be featured in the 'disputed trades' section for flogging dodgy merchandise:eek:

I am a lot better than we met but could do with being better still but al least I'm still here :)

This week has seen me out with the camera including today & I will need to look at the shots - twiddle them & put some up

Again thanks mate & give my best wishes to her indoors Yvonne (Yv - the dreaded MOD) (y)

Disputed trade! Don't talk to me about disputed trade!! We've only had the camera for two years and the battery has gone flat - TWICE! - and now apparently we're going to have to format the memory card! :(

But that's all forgiven if you're a lot better than you were when we met!! (y)

BTW, you're right about the mods! I know most of them and on balance Yv is still the one I dread most! :exit:
